Hood Hinges

What is the deal with the hood hinges? When the back of the hood stick up is that from a worn hinge?

Is there a low buck fix with the old hinge?

Re: Hood Hinges

Crazy question, did you try adjusting the hinge? If so what's the position of the hinge at the front and rear bolt?

Re: Hood Hinges

I dont think the front bolt hole is sloted and the rear is down as low as it will go.

Re: Hood Hinges

A friend of mine had that same problem, and it was caused by an inexpensive seal that held the back end up. I turned him on to a seal that folds over like a horizontal V, and that cured the problem. Can't remember where I got it!

Re: Hood Hinges

I didn't make it out to the shop tonight to do some looking. I haven't tried this idea, but I would try to elongate the rear hole to allow it to be adjusted down some more. If that works then maybe the hinge has some wear. This is a total guess right now. Maybe someone will have a better answer.

Re: Hood Hinges

I have the same problem. I don't think its an adjustment issue with mine. Each time I close it I have to go to the cowl and push it down. Its like it doesn't close all of the motion up on the hinge. I haven't made an honest attempt to fix it. I wonder if the spring could be an issue?

To be honest I haven't got to adjusting the hood yet. I had a 69 camaro that drove me crazy. It stuck up in the back also. I was 16 at the time and didn't know how to fix it. I took it to Rick's camaro's and I can't remember for sure what he did, but it was completely opposite of what I did. I believe both bolts are adjustable on the 69. I pushed them both down. That didn't work. I believe he raised the front of the hinge up and it fixed it. My point is has anybody tried to raise the rear up? It sounds crazy and probably is, but it's a quick adjustment. Just throwing ideas out there.

rbar might be right as well.

Re: Hood Hinges

This maybe something to try.

Also, has anyone bought hinges from LMC? If so, did they work better? I saw they were around $45 each.

Re: Hood Hinges

I have read on the board that it means the hinges are shot, but I have no idea if this is true or not. After reinstalling my 'burb hood I have it slightly out of wack and it doesnt close like before. Could be the hinges fight each other?

Re: Hood Hinges

I might also remove the hood stricker to eliminate any bind. That way your sure it is only a hinge problem.

Re: Hood Hinges

I have fixed a similar situation by just adjusting the hinges. I don't remember the exact procedure, but it took some trial and error to get it right. Sometimes lubrication all the pivot points will also help.

I have the identical situation, but the hood sticks up only on the diver's side in the rear. I close the hood, push the rear down, get in and drive. I'll take a look at it eventually, but there's a lot more pressing things that need to be addressed first.

Re: Hood Hinges

Here are the hood alignment instructions from the 1960 Chevy Truck shop manual. The actual adjustments for the rear height of the hood are indicated in paragraph 4 on the 3rd page. The 1st two pages have pictures that are referenced along with other information that may be helpful.
