AIRBAG Tweakin!!!
Well I was finally pursuaded by one of my vendors to try a new bag. I built the system on my first truck 4 yrs ago, with the standard then Firestone 2600, and 2500# bags. Great system no knocking it.
Well I tried the the new SLAM bags RS62. All I have to say is WOW The bag lift's higher and is a little stiffer (no more bouncy ride) , and the bag has a built in bump stop in the bag. Well what more can I say check out the site for comparison to Firestone, and take it from a long time Bag guy these bags are the shiznit. Also, if you got high speed access check out the videos. http://slamspecialties.com/home.html OH added bonus! I reworked the old system while replacing the bags and got an extra 1.75" of drop and PLANTED THE CROSSMEMBER. YEAH!!! Now I'm reworking the c-notch in rear which should give me an extra 3" drop in rear, and bumbin my system up to 220psi, with 1/2" line. Now that is what you call FAST BAGS!!! LOL Sorry so long but I'm STOKED!!!

I spent some time on the comparison data with the standard Firestone bags and decided that, for the person who's not in need of ultra-pressure bags--
1) there is not any significant value in the new bags except for -- built-in bump stops (not sure the value here, but...) -- more lift from the same bag-type (which means you can put your 'base' drop lower and still drive OK) 2) they are about the same price... So, I'd say that I would only be interested in buying them if/when I need to replace the ones I have. Anyone else come up with something different?? Kenneth

Less PSi to raise is wwhat I heard. They are supposed to be the best bags you can buy! Thats what I'm buying. Also NsAne how much are a set of four 1/2" Single Port BAgs? Also which should I run-6's or the 7's? I have heard alot of good things about these bags. Thanks DeWayne

Again I really want 1/2" bags up front and extra lift is a bonus. The bags I had originally for the rear were 1/2" port. But they where threaded wrong. My main issue when going to front bags will be equally fast raise times front and rear. When I pancake up on all 4s I don't want the rear raising faster than the front. So bigger ports up front is a must have. I like the extra lift idea. Allthough I don't want to go really low. Aired out I want the rear pumpkin 1/4" from the bed floor. And the front to be equal in height.
I'm looking into compressors, and valves a McMaster, or Granger

thats an interesting .02 reumster. so it would be good to have 1/2 ports in front and what should be good to raise the rear just as fast? 1/4 ports? what about the size of the air lines and solenoids.....I thought I knew my stuff about bags but you put in a whole new dimension with pancaking up at the same time.

What? If you have 1/2" ports up front and 1/4" ports in the rear the front is going to be alot faster than the rear won't it?! Why not run 1/2" ports all the way around? Makes sense don't it?

Just put a regulator on the rear lines and figure out what they need to be set at for the truck to rise evenly.

reumster is saying that because of the weight of the engine compared to an empty bed, the front will not be as fast if you go with the same port all the way around.

Exactly. But as JHickson6 said you can run 1/2" on all 4 corners, and run regulators. But it's more expensive. But I have it figured that 1/2" in the front and 3/8 in the back. You'll save the money in the rear. BUt still by 1/2 port bags allround. Valves are easier to change than bags. Also 3/8" I feel is plenty for dump valve. but there again you can run 1/2 dump valves and use adjustable exhaust thingy bobers.

How do you align your truck with airbags?
I would love to drag the body on my truck with bags. I used to owns an older toyota with juice (hydraulics) and always wore out the tire very fast. Could someone tell me how you keep you truck aligned with airbags?

all of firestones double convoluted airbags have built in bumpstops...so don't let that feature fool you. Only the tapered sleeve bags don't have built in bumpstops.

Sorry guys have'nt been on all weekend.
1.The main GAIN in my opinion is the SQUISHY RIDE is gone. 2. NO BALLOONING, you buy a 6" bag and it stays 6" fully out or fully up. 3. True the bump stops are in firestone bags, but not as much cushion as SLAM. These are just my opinions to help people decide. I ran a Firestone airbag system on 2 trucks for over 4 yrs, and loved it. But these new systems just BLOW the others away. JMO

I feel you should set your solid bumpstops on the truck to limit the heigth of zero psi anyway. Why subject the bag to the stopping of the truck

TRUE, but there isn't always room for a bumb stop. The first thing to go when installing on most vehichles is the bump stops. They tend to be close to the bag assembly, and we all know you don't want anything close to the bag. Second to follow bumpstops is usually front sway bar, again close to bag and they limit drop time. They tend to bind a little.
Every body has a diff way of approach this is just mine. The slam bag allowed me to put the bag up in the upper cup more, because they don't BALLOON, this gave me extra drop. Extra drop is always welcomed.
