Thumbs up What have you done to you truck the past week?

I may be a newer member but I truly love every aspect of these incredible trucks! I thought this would be a good start to see what exactly the transformation that happens when restoring these beauts! Anyways, just post up what you've done the past week or so on the thread!

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

Dropped my 396BB at my local machine/pro shop for evaluation and a complete overhaul. Bought the truck with the engine removed and disassembled. Now I am having the pleasure of having the engine build to my specs.
SO far we are looking at a complete rebuild of the '71 402 heads with new valve guides, valves and seats. The crank will have to go to -.020 and the cylinders will have to go to -.060. The engine and rods will be line bored and balanced. I am also looking to go with a Lunati Voodoo series 60202 mild cam. Not decided wether or not to go with the PO Holley intake and Holley DP (size unknown). I might just go to the Edlebrock mainfold/carb setup for ease of maintanability.

That is all so far.

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

i finally changed the oil in my longhorn... cap rotor and plugs too. It was way over due.
The engine is still making death noises and trying to spit a piston out a tailpipe, but thats what happens when they get worn .060 over

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

Ordered a governor recalibration kit (my 700R4 shifts way too low to make use of the LT1) and fuel filter for the 72' I also ordered a new fuel sender (upgrading mine to 3/8") and a LH defroster vent (the PO put two RH vents in it!) for the 67'

Sounds like you guys have done a lot. Do you guys do most of the work yourself, or take it in? If you do take it in, for what occasions would you take it in for?

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

Sunday I pulled the dash apart, and started wiring in new gauges. Saturday I finished pulling the front clip and rad support so I can pull my motor and tranny and replace them THIS weekend. yesterday, I finished the body work and primed the front clip and hood and started the rest of the truck. Friday I hope to finally weld in the new cab corners and rockers and pre mount my kick panel speaker boxes to see where to trim. Then maybe ill sleep at work next week hahaha

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

Fired mine up for the first time after installing all new wiring in the truck, my only mistake was having my firing order off 1 on every cylinder Had to look up where #1 was on a HEI its been so long since I had to do that.

I opened the passenger door. I need to change the oil and then get it back to Curts so he can complete some final details.

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

I bought a new Flaming river steering column, Wilwood D52 calipers and new spindle. This goes with tons of other items I have been buying for last couple of years. Hopefully once I get these last few items, I can get the truck back on the road. Then she goes on a truck to get shipped back to Texas for good.

Re: What have you done to you truck the past week?

Well the other night I put out a fire in the engine compartment after my carb farted on start up and burned up the air filter at the local Wally World parking lot. So last night I put a new chrome air cleaner on it and adjusted the carb.

pulled out the bench seat then stripped out the old carpet. PO had glued in rubber carpet underpad. comes out in postage stamp sized pieces after a few years of sitting. The good news is that the floor is in great shape.
