67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Well the time has come to start working on my old 67. It has been sitting in storage for the past 5 years and the only thing I have done to it is load it on a trailer and haul it to different storage locations.

This truck means a lot to me as it was my 1st vehicle when I turned 16(I am now 28) and was my daily driver til April of 06 when I got my old 1stgen Cummins Dodge. This truck has went through a number of changes in the time I've owned it and has had about 6 different motors,2 trannys, 2 rearends and 3 sets of trailing arms, and its a wonder its still alive after I beat the ever living snot out of it through high school. At one point in 00 I almost sold it for 200$ but thank the lord the buyer flaked out and I still own it to this day, this truck wont ever get sold.

This thread will be very picture heavy as most of you will probably like. If I can figure out how to get some old school pics scanned on the computer I'll post em.

The plans for this truck are to make it a clean driver, 3/3 drop maybe more in the rear if I don't like the static drop. Fresh 292 with Clifford intake and headers, power brakes(this truck had no options). I just want to make it presentable and have fun with it. It will also be flat or satin black.

BTW none of this build will be done in a garage.

So here we go, heres a few pics of it In storage over the past few years.

Some more recent ones

292 the is to be installed.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

So heres what I did today.

I pulled the old grille out as it was bent from an incedent with my neighbor about 6 or 7 years ago. Now I need to find a couple good chrome loops so I can put a good one together. I also pulled off the 68 hood and put a clean 67 hood back on I pulled off a parts truck I scored for free a few years ago.

Picture time.

That's cool that you hung on to it and now fixing it up. My first ride was an 81' swb 4x4, that's still in the neighborhood, as a matter of fact just down the road in a tailer park. Every time I drive by it still looks like it should be mine, and I gave it back to my dad over 10 years ago and he probably sold 3 to 5 years ago. I still kind of miss it

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

JHT67, If your kickin yourself for sellin it why not go see if you can go buy it back?

67chevy1series, I'd like to get it back to having as much 67 stuff as possible but the 72 doors I got on it are just way to clean to pull off, might have to put in some 67 wing latches to disguise em a bit but its kinda hard to cover up that screw dimple in em. I had heard so many stories from my old man and my uncles about cool old Iron they had but sold for dumb reasons so I just decided then that this truck would never get sold no matter how tight money was or how bad things were.

Anyhoo plans for today include going to Omaha to pick up some chrome grille hoops, stopping to get some paint and to finish disassembling the old grille and new grille and paint everything separatly, if the paint dries quick enough I might start putting a good one together.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Well got me a grille put together tonite. When I got to Omaha the guy that had the grille hoops realized that they weren't in as good of shape as he remembered so he cut me a heck of a deal on em, I figured they'd be good enough to get me by for a while. The grille I put together is by no means perfect but it is somewhat presentable now, better than having a big crunch in the center of it.

Hopefully get it put in tomorow if the weather holds out.

The guy I got the hoops from also has a bunch of other 67-72 stuff so when funds allow I'll be paying him a visit again to get some other good stuff.

Anywho a few pics.

Be happy it's in the generation!

And dude! I have to say, I'm jealous of that straight six, that is cooler than $#!t!

Yeah I'm kind of a 6 cylinder guy, if you havn't noticed everything in my sig has a 6 of some sort in it.

I know this truck will always have a 6 in it, back in 01 I put a smallblock in it and the truck fought me the whole way then the motor went ker plewy, I then stuck the a 292 back in it and drove it til 05 when the cliffor manifold developed a crack and started sucking air causing number 5 to run lean and burn a piston. I scored a 230 out of a 68 chevelle out of the thrifty nickle(This was before I knew what CL was) I stuck it in and ran it til I parked it, it ran great but didn't have the ohmphh of the big 292.

The 292 that is pictured came out of a 71 P chassis but it has an 82 date code, anyhoo it was freshly rebuilt before I got it and it was one of the strongest 292s I've drove in stock form, so it should be real good for my old junk.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Got the grille in today.

Now I need to find a decent box to put on it, or I suppose I could put the original back on for now even though its kinda beatup the good thing is its not rusty.

After it warms up again I'll probly start getting the 292 tossed in and get the brakes working again.

Anyway heres a few more pics of my old junk.

BTW this is probly one of the handiest tool purchases I've ever made, Only took about 20 minutes to put the grille in with this.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Why, yes they are. My truck was not a CST though, I pulled the seats out of a 67 GMC parts truck I bought about 9 years ago that was the same truck I got the Clifford manifold and headers of . The plans are to stick a bench in for now and when funds allow I'll get the buddy buckets redone.

Thanks for that link. My plans for the interior are to paint all the steel a dark metalic slate grey, Black carpet and dashpad and black seat. Keep it simple but tasteful.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

I have also thought about parchment interior like the Highlanders used that would give it a lot of contrast.

I had a 72 highlander with a the plaid seat and I loved that interior, still kinda miss that truck but oh well. I traded it for my old 60 4x4.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Yeah shortly after I traded I was kinda kickin myself but the I just said to myself i can find a rusted out 72 about anywhere. The 72 looked good until you looked underneath. It was kind of an oddball in it own right, It was a factory 307 2bbl with factory A/C but had no guages but had tilt. When I got rid of it it had a healthy 462 but I couldn't keep a TH350 in it.

My neighbor actually owns it now I'll try to snap a few pics tomorrow.

But yeah, I'm glad I traded. you'd be surprised how many people actually ask to buy it when I'm out and about with it.
