71 C20 Cab swap to 78 C10 frame?
Hey everyone I'm new to the site I just bought a 71 C/20 regular cab extra long bed. She's a little rough and rusty looks like she was well used around the farm but not bad. I bought from a 78 C10 big ten regular cab short stepside parts truck from a friend who bought it for the cab. I'm wondering if its possible to swap the 71 cab onto the 78's frame, do they mount up the same or did the body mounts change with the body style change???
Thanks, Evan. |

Welcome! It's not going to be a bolt on swap. In fact I think it would be pretty tough because of the cab mounts being different, although the complete front crossmember (saddle) and front suspension will bolt into the '71 frame as a unit with very little modification. I think there are only 2 holes that you will have to drill.

Re: 71 C20 Cab swap to 78 C10 frame?
you need a flat frame. The only way to do this is to do a body lift, which would look 'funny' on a 2 wheel drive short step.
Your extra long bed... it has a small section added to the front of the bed? That's a longhorn, somewhat low production run of trucks. If you end up using it for parts for a short bed truck, try to sell the bed instead of scrapping it (unless it is junk to begin with). Check out my longhorn website http://www.longhorntrucks.freeservers.com/ if you wanna know more about it. Welcome to the board! |

Yep Shes a Longhorn still has the badges too, I didn't know Longhorns are less common there's a few around where I'm at. I was thinking of maybe shortening the frame and putting a stepside bed on. But that seems like a shame to do to a desirable frame, and the bed is rough crunched on both corners but almost 0 rust.
