Are stainless brake hoses worth it?

I am redoing the brakes on my truck. New stainless brake lines, and pads, shoes, etc. I don't know whether to go with stainless brake hoses or OEM style rubber ones. GMC Paul's has a set of stainless hoses (all 3) for $105, so the money is not muych different. I have heard some urban myths that stainless hoses will sometimes fail at the fitting, but couldn't any hose with a crimped end?

What have you guys done?

Re: Are stainless brake hoses worth it?

you might notice the performance difference on a sports ar you drive hard every day but not on a 2 ton 40 year old truck that's riven sensibly.
that being said I have them on mine, custom made mostly for looks.

I consider Russell expensive, not top quality. I know I have used a set of three for that kind of money (mine where Skyjacker) and I got what I paid for AND what I could have paid Russel $210 for. They are a nice upgrade, probably not much noticeable difference over OEM. They may last longer, but OEMs last almost forever as it is.

Re: Are stainless brake hoses worth it?

For what its worth, I just changed a factory front hose on 90' truck that was internally collapsed. Thought the piston was hanging up in the caliper. Nope. Pulled the hose and could not put compressed air through it.
Braided hoses are nice, unlikely to have this problem......
