Question YOM Plates

Does anyone know a good place to get year of manufacture plates? I have a set of 71 farm truck plates but was told you can't use them in Texas anymore unless it's a farm truck. Kinda sucks cause they're brand new.

Re: YOM Plates

That is the new law, but my understanding is it doesn't take effect untill sept.

they are all over evil bay, search the collectibles section. The dmv will have to inspect them.

Re: YOM Plates

I called TexDOT and they told me to call the tax assessor-collector. They told me as long as they approved the plates I could use them. When I went in today they said the law changed and I can use yom plates as long as they're not farm plates.

Re: YOM Plates

I'm running them on my truck. It has to be white with black lettering, say 67 (for example) in the upper right hand corner, Texas across the top, and truck across the bottom. The numbers should be 2A*0000. As long as it's 2 characters followed by 4 numbers, you're good to go. It puts that finishing touch on your truck. I love mine and wouldn't run anything else. I still laugh when people ask me what year my truck is. Guess nobody thinks to look at the plates anymore.

Re: YOM Plates

I've always run YOM Farm Truck plates on my trucks.

Last year I took a new set of them to the courthouse to get them registered for my 63 truck. The head lady behind the counter told me the law had changed and no more YOM farm truck plates would be approved. Any that were already approved previously had been grandfathered in. I got kind of argumentative since I've always done it. She pulled a memo and read it there in front of me. It's a legit new law. No way around it. I now have nice farm truck plates screwed to the wall of my shop as decorations.

Re: YOM Plates

I must have gotten lucky....I have 1972 Farm Truck plates on my 72 K20...I had to explain (argue/debate) the law to the clerk, and then to her supervisor....funny how quickly they will back down when you have a paper copy of the law to show them....as for any new changes - they suck! Why not allow Farm Plates? Mine are 5 digit monsters in the 2 tone green and they almost match the truck's paint color!

If you have more than one office in your area, go talk to the other one...

Re: YOM Plates

I'm not sure about farm plates but the law just changed this year for YOM plates. I have 70 texas truck plates on mine registered as a classic. After Sept. 1 YOM plates will only be allowed with antique registration in Texas.
Heres some info on YOM plates in general: http://www.texasyom.com/2011

Re: YOM Plates

I can't help you on the farm truck plate question but I got mine from ebay for Florida.

I was able to hunt down one that was from the same county I live in and the same weight designation. I actually found a few but this was the closest match and the cleanest.

Thanks for the responses. I found some on ebay so I may have to go that route.
