Doing a trade. Caddy for a pickup.

Long story short, im trading my caddy for a pickup. Got the caddy for free and its not quite "my thing" Chevy trucks on the other hand are VERY "my thing". I have a cabin out in eastern oregon that needs some work and the nearest lumber yard is about an hour away. Meaning i need a pickup that i can park up there so i dont have to drive one from home every time i want to work on it. So its probably going to get parked up there. Unless, its in better shape than my 4x4 pickup. If its nicer, i will keep it here in town and take the 4x4 up there. The truck im getting is perfect for up there. Three on the tree, no power steering, 350. Minimum amount of stuff to wrong! Should also get ok mpg between the cabin and the lumber yard which helps!

So im trading this,

For this!

Looks like a NICE truck! Lose the rack, fog lights and get four matching wheels/tires...and you are set (IMO)

Re: Doing a trade. Caddy for a pickup.

Great swap! Treat that trim nice, the yellow stripe stuff is a 1-year only deal.
Most of those caddies around here are sporting twenny-fo's and 1000 watt boom boxes, nice to see an unmolested one.

Yeah I'd make that trade every day, twice on Sundays. Looks like a clean old truck that is pretty much unmolested.

All 77's with trim had it, I was just saying there were some 75's that did too.

Looks like a sweet deal to me. The truck looks better to me than the caddy.

Re: Doing a trade. Caddy for a pickup.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about it. It actually has the fourth matching wheel and tire. I plan, like you guys suggested, to ditch the rack and fog lights. Then I just want clean it up real good, re dye the door panels and I will be set! I'll try and figure out if its a 305. It's ok if it is. In this light of a truck it could get me a little better mpg. Don't need too much power. The trade should happen Monday. I will be sure and post more pics when I get it cleaned up.

My 77 had the blue motor, it was a 350 with smog heads, no power at all

Re: Doing a trade. Caddy for a pickup.

Yea I don't predict a whole lot of power. And thats ok. Just needs to serve its purpose as a pickup and be reliable.

His truck looks to be the emissions free motor at minimum, 350, not a smogger motor if no egr valve. I have one in my 77 c10 heavy half and that thing would pull hard all the way to 50mph for a stock pickup. Ive got the same motor in my 86 k5 (originally from a 75 k5) with a summit k1103 cam and its got more then enough power even being a 8.5:1 junkyard longblock. A blue motor 305 would be gutless though, my 80 camaro has one and its a turd even with a 4 speed and 3.42 rear gears. The paint on the block doesnt say whats inside it, all 77 small block motors were blue, but bigblocks stayed orange till 78 i believe.

Re: Doing a trade. Caddy for a pickup.

Got it! I really like it! Its got rust in one of the rockers that i might fix because its so minor, but other then that the body is damn near perfect! Its got a different set of wheels and tires then in the pics above, i'll post new pics as soon as i get er cleaned up a bit. Runs really good. Plenty pepy! Thinking i might just slap some power steering on it tho! Geesh! Then, i might some day swap out the trans with a sm465 so it can be floor shift instead of column shift. I hadnt seen the truck before today so i was curious what shape it was actually in. And i was pleasantly surprised!!! When he pulled up with it i was like "F-ing sweet!" So, im pretty excited! Its going to work out very well for me!

Btw, it is a 350! Least thats what the sheet in the glove box, and the sticker on the air cleaner says.

Re: Doing a trade. Caddy for a pickup.

I'd be excited as hell about that trade. I've got nothing against old caddys, but in a car i want some fuel economy, and you can't haul lumber so well in a caddilac.
