77 Chevy K20 Resto

Hey Guys, just joined up. We have a 77 K20 here in the shop getting a full bore resto. It's going to have a turbo'd big block running propane. Don't ask why . . . it's what the customer wants!

Anyway, I'll try to keep up on the updates. So far we've been undoing the hack job that the previous shop did. I'm just about at the point where I'm going to start building the headers and turbo system.

Anyone have a front frame rail section? The previous shop put on a fiberglass tilt clip and I need to undo all that and return the frame to stock (they cut off the front frame rails and BS'd on the tilt stuff.)

Re: 77 Chevy K20 Resto

Here's a couple more pics right when we got it in the shop from Arizona.

Beautiful turbo set-up!

Upon closer inspection, the previous "Race Car Builder" guy welded a piece of 3x2 rect. steel tubing to the stock cast exhaust manifold for the turbo mount. Nevermind that there was about 1/8" of clearance between it and the frame rail.

The truck is a mess, but we're getting it done. Next step is a March Performance serpentine set up and the start making the turbo headers and exhaust. Then the cab and bed are off to get sand blasted. Moving right along.

Curious as to who in our area you plan to use for the sand blasting of the body parts?

I have used a couple in Temecula.

Have had good experience with "Temecula Valley Powder Coating" over on Sarah Way.

We'll probably end up using them. I've been using TVPC for many years. We started using them when Debbie and her husband owned it, and they we on Del Rio.

Out of curiosity, what are the other sources you have for Powder Coating? Or how about any other plating places (chrome, nickel, zinc)?

Thanks!

Looks like quite a challenge. Rock crawlers sometimes use propane fuel because it is not affected by odd angles of travel or different elevations, like almost vertical ascent/descent on hills.

Scary part is he was happy with the work preformed at the other shop! Never in my life would something leave, with my name on it, looking like that!

Thats what I've read. This guy isn't a rock crawler, so I'm not sure what the draw is. Seems like propane would be too hard to find when you really need it. Oh well.

Re: 77 Chevy K20 Resto

Small update: We've had some other projects in the shop that has kept us busy. A GM Performance Serp. Belt set up should be here on Monday. Once that's all installed it's rock n roll time on the headers.

Once the headers are done, it's off to soda blast.

This is one of the few projects that looks better as you take parts off it!

Re: 77 Chevy K20 Resto

Got the GM serpentine belt kit today and tossed it on there. Pretty nice kit, except for the wrong instructions included with the kit, but we figured that out pretty quick. Now its on to the headers.
