Anybody have a bare metal pickup?

I seen a 50's model pickup in a magazine that was just bare metal with clear coat and it looked sharp and really got me thinking bout doing it to my '63. Anybody on here got pics of one this body style? I'd love to do it but would like to see it before.

Thanks

Re: Anybody have a bare metal pickup?

The plan on my 66 is to run it bare metal, got the 61 hood stripped, starting on the bed. gotta order some gibbs oil.

I may do the same thing with my 2wd 64 suburban as well since the body is almost flawless.

Re: Anybody have a bare metal pickup?

How do you keep it like that? Clearcoat it?

I saw a newer F**d pickup at a Barret-Jackson show that had the paint ground down and used clear candy paint so you can see the grind/sand marks under the candy. It looks sweet.

There's an idea for ya.

Re: Anybody have a bare metal pickup?

If you just do a regular clear coat it will start to turn yellow and chip overtime

Re: Anybody have a bare metal pickup?

Thanks guys, them pickups look awesome! I'm not sure how my body itself looks just yet, but I do know the PO has put bondo on some of the trim holes and whatnot. But I plan on stripping it to bare metal before I paint it, and if the body looks good imma just keep it bare metal. I love that look.
