Would a 4.8 LS motor be okay in burb?
That's my question.

Ok for power?
My '72 350 came with 175hp new in '72 (the optional 402 made 210hp), I think a 4.8 would be a monumental upgrade.

I guess I'm asking compared to the 5.3 or 6.0

yeah, my 06 crew cab had the 4.8 in it, lifted on big 20" wheels... and it would get up and go just fine

Re: Would a 4.8 LS motor be okay in burb?
Should be no problem. I had the 4.8 V8 in my 2002 Yukon with 24" rims on it and had no problems with it. It's a decent engine. Of course the larger engines have more power, but is it ness' to have them and the decrease in gas mileage...if you think bigger is better, then hold out for the 6L and beef it up lol Personally I liked the 4.8L. I've driven all the chevy engines and really there's not too much difference...exhaust, gearing etc can make all 3 types of engines sound great and push any size truck. For a daily driver or even a show truck, nobody's going to care except you so test drive the three different engines in chevy trucks. Try to get similar trucks though so you can tell the difference the engine makes vs the gearing etc.

Re: Would a 4.8 LS motor be okay in burb?
the 5.3 and 6.0 share the same crank (slightly longer stroke than the old school 350). the 6.0 makes great power but the big pistons hurt gas mileage. i like to the think of the 5.3 as a modern 305 that has been bored out slightly. there is a reason it is the standard engine in the new burb.
personally what i'd love to see is a custom LS motor with the 4" stroker crank out of the vette z06 7L, with the 5.3 pistons and all tuned for low and mid range torque and throttle response. i think that would make a great power plant for a truck that sees daily driver and towing duties and still strives to be frugal at the pump. |

Re: Would a 4.8 LS motor be okay in burb?
I'm not necessarily looking for power. I don't even plan having dual exhaust on the burb. I just want a nice driving and cruising engine. Though gas mileage would be a plus.

Re: Would a 4.8 LS motor be okay in burb?
i'm sure the 4.8 has tons more power than the 307 in my 72 burb c20. but my truck has a 4.10 in the rear and i don't use it as a daily driver so "quick" isn't a big issue. i have a 406sbc that will be going in eventually and i know that will hurt economy a little bit. go with the 4.8 and let us know how it works for you......

Re: Would a 4.8 LS motor be okay in burb?
I think the 4.8 would be perfect for the type driving you do.It would be great to use the engine tranny and rear end from a late model.Since you seem to do more cruising then any other type driving the 4.8 would give you good power and decent mpg for a lesser buy in.Maybe try to find a late model roll over or wreck and buy the whole thing.

4.8 would be perfect for an 'ol burb. That's what I plan on using for my '85.
