My truck doesnt have a speedometer cable so I bought one, i think 50 inches. It has a 350 with a 350 automatic. Is this the right length cable? How would I go about putting this in, what firewall hole do I use? Appreciate any help.

Use any hole you want as long as you try to keep the cable from sharp bends. That is the important part. AutoMeter has Speedo cableless speedometers. That is what I'm going to be using.

50" seems short to me. The hole you want is shown on this thread. 1971Stepside did a nice job on labelling the firewall holes in this thread.

The electric speedos are spendy, they use a little box that bolts to the side of the tranny, and two little wires run to the back of the speedo. It's easily calibrated, you can change tire size, gears,etc... and just hit a button and it acurate to 2 mph or so

I just measured a cable out of a 71 w/TH350 2 wheel drive and it is 61" long.

LMC lists cables at 63" and 83" which would be used for the 2 wd and 4 wd respectively.

where can you get the electronic ones? i plan on switching tires and gears often so it could be usefull

I guess if the electronic ones are expensive, and you still have to run wiring to the dash...........along with the within 2 miles idea.............don't see this to be any advantage.

If you think about the price of a new cable with or without a new housing, and how long they will last under normal use.............don't see any advantage for the normal user. Street rods that want a clean look, yes.

I have bought just the cable, that was universal. Just cut it off and put the fitting on the other end.....doesn't hurt to add a little soldier job.
