speedo help
Ssup guys. New to the forums so I'll probably have some questions once in a while. Don't know if this helps but I have 75 Chevy c/10 with the 3 speed tranny. The truck is pretty much factory. My speedometer works sporadically (more often it doesn't work lol) but the mileage counter has stopped working altogether. Any way to know if it's the cable or the actual guage itself?

Re: speedo help
Nublood, What trans? Unhook the cable at the trans and run it with a drill. (might need to put the drill in reverse) see if the speedo is working in all aspects. If it does, the problem is in the trans. If it doesn't, pull the cable from the clock behind the dash. There is a spring clip on it, push the clip towards the back of the truck and pull the cable forward. Try to pull the cable out of the casing and look at it. If its stuck, replace it. If it comes out and isn't frayed anyplace, lube it with a heavy oil or light grease and put it back in. Pull the dash and remove the clock and hook it to the cable again and spin it up. Possible problem areas. Gear(s) in trans failed, speedo cable or plastic drive pin on cable. Speedo head. Make sure all the square cuts, male and female are intact.

The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose. |

Re: speedo help
Thanks James. I'll do what you suggested and see if that works. I've had the truck for about 3yrs, but have just recently got serious about fixing her up a bit. I'll start with the little things like this before I put too much time into it.
