Good idea or not?
ok I have a 68 c20 longbed 50th. I'm thinking of making it a 1/2 ton shortbed. So if I do is the value shot to hell? What do you guys think?

Re: Good idea or not?
a lot more chop to shortbed projects are made fit for recyclers lots rather than showstoppers from what i've seen

Re: Good idea or not?
You could always sell the C-20 and buy a C-10 SWB and save yourself a lot of work.
I'm guessing you would need to buy a 1/2 ton doner truck anyway?

I looked for quite a while, but there are still some SWB trucks out there. Depends on what condition you want, i.e., something to drive versus something to work on. To shorten a C-20 seems a little counterproductive to me, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Good idea or not?
I have a friend with a 1969 Z28 camaro it was all there when he got in back in 1980.He cut it up.Took the dash completely out and junked it.Took the 12 bolt out junked it.Put a 9 inch. took the 302 motor out and junk it.Put a 427 in it with full roll cage and raced it a few times.Put a fiber glassed front end.Junk the metal front end.Now the car sits in his grouge covered up
I ask him dose he regret it.Every single day!!! It was such a Nice metallic Blue with Z28 racing stripes. He tells me He sits and looks at the car and he told me once he asked the car to for give him he was young and stupid. |

Don't cut it up! Sell it to someone who would enjoy a nice C20 and get yourself a SWB!

Re: Good idea or not?
How does your budget fit in here? If you can afford to sell this truck and buy a short one to start with then go for it. If you need to use what you have then do it the way you want. Everyone else may not like your choice but then it doesn't belong to them right? If you worry about collector value maybe you need to be buying vettes instead.

Re: Good idea or not?
Its a truck, not a Camaro or some sort of rare vehicle. Its also a 3/4 ton longbed, even less desirable to most. We here on the board kinda dig 50th trucks, but from what Ive seen no one else really gives a hoot even though we would like to think they should.
Build it in a way that makes you happy. If you are worried about resale, just do a really nice job on your build and build it in a timeless fashion. Meaning all the next owner would have to do is maybe change the wheels and tires to make it more to his or her liking. But please please please do not cut the dash! LOL, just kidding ... Its your toy, have fun with it.

Re: Good idea or not?
I converted my Anniversary C20 to a half ton, it went pretty smooth. I vote to leave it a longbed.

Re: Good idea or not?
I have a 68 gmc 3/4 ton that will be a short 1/2 ton coils sring rea when I am done. YThe truck has air .ps,pb buddy buckets from the factory and speed warningas well .I have added tilt tach and vac gauge as well as a 454 when the frame change is done. I am building the truck that I would want to drive and when it all comes down to don't we all? Yes, resale needs to be considered but your not talking about a turbo pinto motor are something way out left. You are talking about something that many others would like in their truck. When going to sell someone will like the fact that it is short . Jim
