DIY4X B-52's?
Anybody use the DIY4X B-52's? I'm thinking about replacing the hangers on the rear of my burb to be able to adjust the height of the suspension depending on what I am hauling. Thanks, Bradley

B52 brackets are used on the front?

B52's are for the front. The rears should already be 52' if a 1/2 ton rig. 64' is preferred to making it articulate and smooth riding for the rear.

Re: DIY4X B-52's?
Why couldn't I use them in the rear? Also, I dont want 62's! God, what is that, a 12" lift?

Spring length doesn't set how much lift they have. Arch, and spring rate do. A 62-64 install gives roughly a 4" lift.

Damn, I want adjustability, but I can't afford air right now. 4" is too much lift, I want a 2" MAX.

Do a shackle flip in the rear. Offroad Designs makes a 2.5" lift and 4" lift versions. I put 2.5" lift ones on my '84 CUCV M1010 ambulance. http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/shacklekit.htm

Re: DIY4X B-52's?
You don't need to get testy dude. He just gave an option. What you asked for really isn't made. Nobody makes a kit, hangers or other to allow the springs to bolt up one way for a certain height and another way to add 2", 4" or whatever you want.
What you are really looking for to have ability to adjust on the fly would be installing rear air bags to aid in the load. When used you can adjust the level of the truck with adding air if load is added to it. When the load is off, letting air out brings it back down. If you really want to get to another level, install an onboard compressor and controls to adjust the ride on the fly.

Re: DIY4X B-52's?
First off educate yourself. 52' springs are the LENGTH not the height of the lift. Those are the standard rear spring length in half ton apps. A longer spring articulates more and gives a better ride. YOU CANNOT USE A B52 KIT IN THE REAR. The adjustability doesn't work the way you believe it does. In fact since you dont understand it avoid it. The serious off-roaders use that kit. Since you are not one of them just buy a 2' lift! http://www.ntwonline.com/76-87_GM_1_..._P8377C823.cfm
Of just buy some junkyard 1 ton springs. Those will net you about 2' or just get a 2' block if you want to go real cheap. Last edited by scottsdaleowner75; 03-27-2011 at 12:35 AM. |

Re: DIY4X B-52's?
Your Suburban has 56" springs in the rear already. That shackle flip is 2.5" vs 2" and that matters? A 1/2"...Really? Maybe you need to vary the line you draw as much as ride height varies from vehicle to vehicle. Ok,then scratch that. You're not looking for lift anyway, right? You want load gross/net versatility. You didn't specify your budget, but a pair of Rancho 9000RSX shocks will cost under $200 and give a range of ride like no other shock. I used these on my '91 diesel 'Burb with Ez-Ride springs. It rode really nice on the softest setting and allowed full flex. I always had the 6' cargo area (ran two seats) full of building tools. The few times I had them out it seemed to ride the same. I only changed the setting when I towed. The tongue weight made for a washy ride. With the shocks set all the way to firm it rode just right. On that setting with no trailer it rode like a rock over bumps.

Re: DIY4X B-52's?
If you're worried about the height of the rear end when towing, add a set of overload springs to your rear spring packs, or get a set of bags, or air shocks.

Re: DIY4X B-52's?
Personally if you can tell the difference between 2" and 2.5" you're better than me. I suggested the 2.5" version as this is about the only way I have seen to get that in the rear easily and at minimal cost. If it HAS to be MAX 2" then my friend, you could be SOL... Build your own parts at that point or fork over $$$ for custom springs.
Just trying to help out. YMMV
