Installed 700r4 but it has an electronic speedo connection.

I can already feel the cost coming but can anybody explain my options. I am trying to avoid a GPS speedo. Originally I had a powerglide with a mechnical speedo cable.

go junkyarding (or e bay or to a trans shop that specalizes in this stuff like bowtieoverdrives.com) and get a tailshaft for a 700 with provisions for a mechanical speedo, then do the math to figure what gears you need.

Re: Installed 700r4 but it has an electronic speedo connection.

All you need to do is remove the tail housing and you will see a reluctor ring where the speedo cable goes. Remove the ring and you will be ready to install a speedo gear. The speed sensor comes out out of the tail housing and you can install a speedo drive in its place. You need to make sure the speedo drive, and gears all match. There are diffrent offsets in the speedo drives for the diffrent gear raitos.

Here is a good resource for speedo info...

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm

A lot of information there.

Speedhut has regular electronic speedometers on sale right now. They have a selector on the individual gauge pages so you can choose which style and colors you want. You can even have your own logo put on the dial.

Re: Installed 700r4 but it has an electronic speedo connection.

Thank you, that kind of info is what i needed. Can I do this though if the tranny is already installed?

Yes you can! Should be plenty of room in there to work, I did the same thing. If you find an older 700r4 it will have a regular speedo connection, all the parts will swap over to your transmission.

The reluctor ring may be hard to remove from under the truck. Have a dremel or cutoff tool ready.

I was hoping there was some kind of adapter or converter.

There is at least one aftermarket converter available. I have forgotten the name but it runs about $339 if you'd rather not go into the trans. I find BTO sells it.
