67 Vette hood

Anyone ever think of doing something like this to one of our hoods? The lines would be perfect for a stinger. I'm running fuel injections so it doesn't make sense for me, but maybe on my next project.

That would look way better than all the cowl induction hoods, that just don't match the lines of our trucks.

Yep! That's been on my 'want to do' list for some time. I have it all figured out how I am going to do it, I just lack the time and the $$.

Make sure you post it up when you get around to doing it. I went to a show a while back and saw a 67 with a 427 and the stinger hood and though, hmmm. I think it would look killer.

Re: 67 Vette hood

Yes I will post up when I do get around to it. I agree that our hoods lend themselves to the Stingray hood very well. I've had this idea for so long it is killing me that I haven't been able to get it done.....especially since I do have a big block in the Burb.

Re: 67 Vette hood

Cool idea. The vette hood is so much longer though, the proportions might look odd on the pickup / 'burb.

Are you thinking of reworking the existing hood spear too or just using a stinger style scoop?

Maybe with a short spear like Baldwin did with Camaro's and Nova's....

I couldn't agree more! I feel that if there had been a "SS" or performance truck from the factory, it would have worn a stinger hood.

I'd start with this and go from there. You would still have to fab up a stinger.

Re: 67 Vette hood

I thought the lines of the hood would stay the same and drop on the scoop like above. I saw a 66 with a cowl hood and started thinking how to do it so it looked a little more like something Chevy would have actually done.

Re: 67 Vette hood

If you filled in the "V" on the hood of our trucks, with a bowed piece of metal, I think it would look very similar to the actual vette hood.

It would be quite an eye catcher, and would look like something Chevy would do. Cool idea! I don't have the skills needed to pull that one off myself though!

Re: 67 Vette hood

I'm thinking of retaining the original shape of the 'spear' on the hood and adding a filler piece with a slight peak to it. And I'll be doing it all out of metal, no 'glass. Oh and don't worry aerotruck, I won't be cutting up any good hoods. I've got a few not so good hoods that will be a good candidate for this.

Now I just need to find the time for this.........

Re: 67 Vette hood

Here's a little motivation for you Cap'n. I finally found some big enough files to work on and a couple hoods at the right angle. The color even came out pretty close. Now that I see it the full stinger looks really good.

Yes. I have been wanting to like a cowl hood on there, but just never could feel right about it.. But that looks good.
The race is on.

Thumbs up Re: 67 Vette hood

Last time I talked to ABOZ he was going to do this on his 1963 Stepside.
Quote:
I plan to fabricate a metal hood scoop like a '67 427 Sting Ray complete with the bumped out spear windsplit. Reverse louvers will be welded in behind the front wheel wells. If thats not enough, I'm designing a bed topper that will resemble a '63 Vette split window coupe!
