1967 CST LWB - Build thread - project "Ranch Rod"
Chapter #1 - New LWB Truck
Just picked up a 1967 C20 LWB, blue/white top from original 78 year old owner. I've seen it sitting out back of his farm field for years. Last week I stopped to take a look at it and see if it was forsale? 327/TH400 with 71,000 miles, Buddy buckets and the interior can be near new condition with some elbow grease & new carpet. Asked what he wanted for it? Longgggg Pause "if you can help me cut down a few trees near my house and $200 bucks it's yours" (A good days worth of chain sawing). It's a deal! Pulled the cash from my pocket then stopped by the next day to help with the trees. It needs a good weekends cleaning and possibly a rod bearing might be going? With a few small block in the shop that's not a problem. Will post pics shortly.

This sounds interesting. My first Daily driver truck was a 67 CST with a 327. It had a powerglide in it though.

A couple pics, more to come.
Rear bumper is going for a chrome one... Needs a solid weekend of cleaning! Just noticed it has speed warning dash.

Locker is one of the terms for a "posi" or Positive locking of both rear wheels for traction.

Re: 1967 CST LWB - Build thread Chapter 1
The half ton conversion begins.
Cleaned a stock 1/2 ton 4.11 posi diff from a 67 C10 I parted last year. Next the cross member for the front w/6 lug disk. Axle prep for install. Gotta like oven cleaner for super greasy stuff...... spray on wait 3-4 hours and wipe off. If anybody has (2) stock wheel cylinder mounting bolts for sale please let me know.

Re: 1967 CST LWB - Build thread Chapter 1
Pics after 30 minutes of washing...
Very clean and straight in general under the growing moss. Bed had a camper shell on it for 25 years good thing........... I tore the rotted owner installed plywood that was on top of the original rotted pine wood floor. Minimal rust on sheet metal around the wood bed to clean up, I thought would of be rusted out bad. 5.14 gears in the Diff.......Yikes!!!!!!!!

Re: 1967 CST LWB - Build thread Chapter 1
Monday....
Cut the rear bumper off, remove original split rim spare. Then replaced cracked brake lights with some clean ones. Pulled bad pioneer radio out and replaced with working delco. Started tearing down the engine for bottom end overhaul.

1/2 ton 6 lug crossmember getting ready to clean/paint/install.
Picked up a nice set of 15X8's steelies for chrome dog dish caps Thanks Frank, aka "PICKMUP"! The cab floor just has surface rust, little bit o sanding should look new.

Re: 1967 CST LWB - Build thread Chapter 1
Looks good. I bought a 67 LWB C10 last year and just started tearing the inside out last weekend. At first I thought the inside was amazing........boy was I wrong. Looks like you have something good to start out with. I'll be starting a build thread shortly, so please let me know what you think.

Re: 1967 CST LWB - Build thread Chapter 1
Snowing pretty good today...
Guess I'll work on other parts out of the weather... Weather cleared up this afternoon.. Drilled the ignition barrel out for a new key set. Cleaning and sprayed the front X-member with oven cleaner... finish cleaning in the morning. Started cutting off hitch tube steel welded to frame rails. Worked the vent windows free from being seized with PB Blaster. Took about 1/2 hour each of trying to free the lower spring pivots..... move smoothly now and chrome is in great shape under the moss. Ordered complete stainless brake line set, quick easy build I hope.

Re: 1967 CST LWB - Build thread Chapter 1
Chapter #3 On a Diet!
Removed the stock Aux Leaf springs a good 70 pounds gone my guess., Remove the two Aux gas tanks from under the bed, 30 gallons of nasty smelling gas between the two of them, another 300 pounds. Removed front wheel wells and heater assy from fire wall for rebuild and new heater core. Pulling 5.15 geared 3/4 eaton for swapping in 1/2 ton 4.11 posi axle today. hope to start pulling the engine this afternoon, another good 100 pounds off. Finished cleaning front cross-member and painted it yesterday. Removed the spare tire hanger and exhaust system, front/rear shocks. Will be installing disk spindles, new coils, ball joints and tie rods in the coming days. C20 emblems came off and C10"s went now the that the suspension is getting swapped.
