60-66 stepside with 73-87 rear fenders
does anyone know of any pics or even photochops of a 60-66 truck with a 73-87 step side bed? I guess I should say a 60-66 step side with 73-87 rear fenders. just wondering if it would look good or not.

Markeb01 is a big fan of that look... I am sure he will post up some photos. Here is one I found in here: Stepside Thread

Re: 60-66 stepside with 73-87 rear fenders
Here's the truck that enlightened me to the concept back in the late 70's. It was a former show truck that belonged to a guy that owned the local barber shop. Almost everything on the truck had been chromed and it was a lot prettier in real life than in the photo:
When the 1960 trucks came out I thought the new Chevy/GMC cab looked goofy with the 1955 step side back fenders. Being 12 years old and an avid car enthusiast, I assumed the new fenders that matched the cab just hadn’t arrived yet, so they were delivering new trucks with the old fenders until the new models became available. 7 years later it was pretty obvious new fenders had never been a consideration. When the 1973 models came out I fell in love with the short bed step sides, or more accurately I loved the new rear fenders because they looked like the long missing fenders that belonged on the 1960 models - for two reasons. They were as wide as the cab, and the angled corners almost perfectly line up with the styling indentation in the side of the cab (as marked up in this photo): Admittedly the fenderwells are the wrong shape, but I still think they look great on the 60-66 trucks, particularly with a nice looking rear bumper to balance out the overall design. Here’s another example belonging to forum member Strodder: And another one I found on the internet somewhere: |

My father had this truck for 25 years, complete long bed from a 75 modell... was realy cool with the newer fender design!
