Changing 1964 Short Stepside to Short Fleetside
Hello,
I just bought my son his first truck to restore. It's a 64 C10 Stepside 1/2 ton. Now the Vin shows it is a shortbed but it has the 1968 short bed on it. Since he has to replace the bed does he have to stick to the stepside or will a short fleetside bed fit right in? Also, I know the Vin numbers indicate its a shorty but does it also tell you if it's a short stepside or short fleetside truck? Thank you all. |

Either one will work just fine. I did the same thing and found no issues at all, finding a SWB bed isnt going to be easy though.

Another option is to replace the later fenders with the earlier design. Lakeroadster did it on his as shown in his build thread, beginning with post #4:

I know of one but it will need alot of work. You might just get yourself a long bed and cut it down but that is alot of work also.. You can see it the pictures that the bed is pretty beat on the right side. That truck is not avalible because it is now the blue truck on the last picture.
