What not to do with your truck.
Please don't attempt this with your truck. This was a proffessional driver on a not so deserted hiway. Got the bejesus scared out of me on Monday while headed to Louisianna towing my travel trailer. The coupler apparently failed after 2 hours of towing and opened as I passed a milk truck. After swaying back and forth violently for several quick cycles on the safety chains, it then threw me into the median headed for the oncoming lanes before jacknifing my truck and then whipping around and rolling onto its side and bursting at the seams. My superior rigging skills kept my motorcycle in place during this entire manuever. Just wished I had checked the coupler as well.

Re: What not to do with your truck.
Wow,
Glad you are ok, other than the need for some clean shorts. From the looks of it, it didn't hit the truck and you stayed away from other drives. Thank your Maker you are still here and here is one to safety chains. I had a newer chevy and trailer pass me one time on my way through Wyoming and I came over a rise and both were overturned. The tail started wagging the dog and that ended it. Again glad you are ok. Shane |

Re: What not to do with your truck.
If it makes you feel better, your truck looks good, even with a mangled trailer behind it. I'm glad everyone's okay.

Glad you are okay. You must have had that Bike cinched down at all 4 corners for it to stay in there.

Re: What not to do with your truck.
Dang son! That was exciting for a bit huh? No doubt a lighter weight truck might have ended up on it's side too as that trailer yanked it around.
I pull a mid size camper with my 1/2 ton excab and think about that possibility a lot. I put a bolt and nut through the coupler's latch to prevent it popping loose.

Re: What not to do with your truck.
I won't pull a trailer without a safety pin holding the latch closed.

Re: What not to do with your truck.
Yeh, I had a lock through it. Somehow the bottom section failed and allowed it to open. The bike was strapped down with 4 heavy duty tie downs. But Truck and myself OK and noone else hurt, so I'm happy. Looking for a new 68 era travel trailer now. Anyone know of one?

Re: What not to do with your truck.
Dont know how far you want to drive to get a 60's era trailer but I did see a trailer on craigslist tonight in Corpus Christi that may be what you are looking for.
http://corpuschristi.craigslist.org/rvs/2291667182.html not mine just happened to be looking tonight and was thinking that would look sweet behind my 70.

Re: What not to do with your truck.
WOW.
at least your OK Pal. I had something like that pulling a BoBcat once on a 2 wheel trailer> had it up on One wheel and took both lanes of traffic to get in slowed back down so it would not flip. Cars were going everywhere. We were all over the road. |

Re: What not to do with your truck.
Had a little bit of excitement, I see! At least it didn't mess that beauty of a truck up, and even better that you're safe!

Re: What not to do with your truck.
I had a hitch break...the part that goes into the reese box..it broke on the bend to the ball...I had a mini excavtor on the trailer..lucky I was going slow it jacked me up and smashed the bed off my truck but at least I kept it up right....so I can relate!!!!
Glad it ended well for yea safety for you is more important that a pile of sheet metel I think the weight of the bike probablly helped you keep it up andin control....did you have weight tranfer hitch??
