New steering box tips

I am installing a new steering box in my truck. Any tips for a smooth installation? 71 1/2 ton power steering, new box from Advance Discount Auto.

Thanks!

Re: New steering box tips

Put one bolt in backwards to give you a helping hand while installing. Use that bolt to line the box up on the frame and help hold the box in place while you start the other 3. Once you have the other three started take that bolt out and install it the correct way.

Good idea, thanks. What about lining the new box up? Should I assume it is already in the center position?

Re: New steering box tips

So just unbolt the pitman arm and the rag joint, and put them on the new box?

Re: New steering box tips

yes, you will need a puller to remove the pitman arm. you can buy them at harbor freight for less than $10 or use the loan a tool prograqm at autozone or oreillys.

Did you paint yours before you put it in?

Re: New steering box tips

I did not paint mine but it would be a good time to if you so desired. It's really not that hard of a job. It's not surprising there are not many tips.
