Remove heater/AC knobs without destroying levers? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Would like to replace the crusty knobs with new ones, but I usually end up breaking the levers. Any tricks?

I used a small slide hammer to get some of mine off, I bent and attached a piece of steel shaped like a claw hammer, I gently pulled them off with little taps.

I just take a pair of pliers and wiggle/pull them off. I don't remember breaking any but it's always a possibility.

These levers are one of the "bad" things about our trucks. (and cars of the 60's)
