Re: How Low

There are so many variables its hard to give you a specific answer. What I can show you is what will happen if there are no fender liners in the way, and you are running a 3" spindle with short cups.

Its hard to tell with the shadows, but the "crossmember" is 3/4"-1" off the ground. The A-arms are resting on the ground hard.

Yes, the A-arms are on the ground "hard" at this point. Your not going any lower with out cutting some steel.

There is nothing wrong with a frame Z IF, and thats a BIG if, it is done correctly. I always hesitate to recommend a Z simply because most of them I have seen done were marginal at best.

Making an angle cut is probably the best starting point. From there, extensive boxing and plating done be a competent welder should be your first priority.

Maybe we can get lakeroadster to do an analysis of the best way to reinforce a Z.

I believe he's 'retired' from structural analysis on the board because of possible litigation concerns should something go wrong.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: How Low

I have looked into doing a Z, but what do you do with the front fender/bumper mounting points etc etc,

Basically, they have to be dropped (Z'd) back down what ever amount the suspension pivot points were raised.
