Re: attaching a np 205 to a 700r4
There are two ways to go. If you choose to use the 700 r4 stock, there is a spacer available that needs to be installed on the end of the trans. This will cause you to move the 205 back and cut both driveshafts. Your column linkage will not fit.
If you are going to rebuild the 700r4, there is a new legnth shaft that can be installed in the trans. This will mean that the spacer is not needed. You can then redrill the front engine mount crossmember and move it 1 7/8 inches forward and not move the transfercase,no need to cut driveshafts and your turbo 350 column linkage will work. this will also allow much needed space if you are going to install an hei distributer.

Re: attaching a np 205 to a 700r4
do i need to trim any off of the tail shaft of the 700r4 to keep tail shaft from bottoming out. was told it can bottom out if you do not cut. an if you try to tighten it completely it will bust transfer case adapter.

Re: attaching a np 205 to a 700r4
I'm not sure.
Option 1 which I did (because I had to rebuild my trans anyway, Has a new shorter shaft. Option two, installs about a 2 inch spacer which should allow for this but since I went the other route, I'm not sure. While mocking up my chassis, I cut off the shaft before the rebuild to fit together. It cut easily with a cutoff wheel if you should need. I remember other threads in the past with information about the spacer installation.Perhaps you can do a "search" for them< or maybe some help from another member.

Re: attaching a np 205 to a 700r4
I put a np205 behind a 700r4. I had to buy the Advanced adapters 700r4 output shaft and marriage plate. In hind site I should have moved the engine and trans forward 1.825" instead of cutting new drivelines. I do not think you can just cut the gm output shaft for this to work with a np205. My setup worked really well overall. I had 4.11's w 35's and it cruised at 2100 on the freeway at 65 mph. Good luck.

Re: attaching a np 205 to a 700r4
Yes you can just cut the shaft, just make sure the shaft is machined far enough up the shaft to engage completely. My transmission guy did mine this way, took some filing and grding to make it fit just right.
