67 chevy rear end ?
Ok like I have said before Im really new to the 67-72 chevy trucks. I have a 67 chevy swb everything is stock as far as suspension goes (still has 6 lug drums all the way around) Im going to install a drop member from Porterbuilt so Im going to change the front to 5 lug but my problem is the rear axle I can buy the gears and the posi for around 600 and I can buy new axles and drums for about 500 which is not bad I guess but Im thinking Id be better off finding a 73-87 rearend that already has the gears and is already 5 lug and then I will just add the posi to it. So basically I need to know if this is possible (in other words will the newer rearend fit) and if not what do I need to do? If someone can point me in the right direction or show me where to look I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks again.

Re: 67 chevy rear end ?
Coil or leaf spring rearend, what do you have now? 71-72 rearends are 5 bolt. 73 and newer rearends have leaf springs. If you have a coil spring setup you will have to do some cutting and welding to make the 73+ rearend work. But CPP sells a kit you can use to make a leaf spring setup work with coils (cutting the old brackets off and welding new ones on. I believe 1970 and newer rearends are a bit wider than what you have now.

Re: 67 chevy rear end ?
Its a coil spring set up. I think I found what Im looking for some guy on Craigslist has a 72 rearend out of a chevy that is 5 lug and has 3.73 gears. As for cutting and welding Its not that big of a problem for me being that I have both in my shop. I was really just tring to get from spending the extra money on making the rearend I want.
