Coil spring vs. leaf spring...

Are the frames the same? I am wanting to change my 68 3/4 with leafs over to 1/2 ton swb with coils spring rear. I have all the suspension left over from another project and the only frame I have found is a leaf spring rear suspension. I thought somewhere that I read the coil spring crossmember can be removed and put into the other frame. Any help? thanks . Jim

Re: Coil spring vs. leaf spring...

I have had trucks with both leaves and coils. The coil spring truck's ride was a little smoother. The leaf spring truck I had was a 3/4 ton that I used to tow pretty heavy loads.

I guess it comes down to personal preference. Leaf sprung trucks have been around for years, my '92 K-3500 has leaves, they seem to be more stable with heavier loads, less sway.

Also it is easier to lower a truck that has coil springs, if that is what you like.
