Bent Trac Bar
Can anyone tell me what would cause this to happen? Can I just replace it or is some other adjustment needed before I can do so? Is there any chance that it was purposely bent in order to change its length? I did notice that some replacements are adjustable. Thanks

Do you think I should get an adjustable one? Are non adjustable ones still available? My truck is standard height and I dont have any plans to change that.

Re: Bent Trac Bar
If its all stock and no plans then a stock type bar will be ok. Adjustables are more for "fine tuning".

Re: Bent Trac Bar
George,
If you are going to buy one, might as well go adjustable. Here is one for $59.00 bucks from Early Classics, and it is adjustable too! Click in the options box and select '65-'72.. http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog....tegory=panhard bars Last edited by lakeroadster; 04-07-2011 at 10:06 PM. |

Re: Bent Trac Bar
Just want to throw this out there: What would be the ramifications of not replacing it at all? Other than appearance, what likely will happen if I just ignore it? Thanks

Re: Bent Trac Bar
Based on the photo you posted the drive shaft looks centered in the crossmember opening so that's a good thing. In regards to leaving the bent bar in place the risk really depends on how the bar was bent. As long as the physical act of bending the track bar didn't create any defects or cracks at the end attachment points it probably will be just fine as is. Only way to know if there is any damage though is to inspect it.
Remove the bar, clean it up with a wire wheel and then inspect it visually. Ideally have it dye checked or magnafluxed. If all looks well paint it, put in some new rubber bushings and reinstall. By the time you do all this it would probably just make more sense to replace it. A broken track bar spells disaster. Last edited by lakeroadster; 04-08-2011 at 10:10 AM. |

Re: Bent Trac Bar
Is it pushing your frame over to an uneven position? I'd still change it to an adjustable one.

Re: Bent Trac Bar
Yep, as long as I should take it off, Im not going to put it back on. Sounds as if an adjustable replacement is my best course of action.
