Getting bumped makes me want to keep my stepbumper!
Out to eat with my father for his 60th b-day in my truck. Sitting at a light and all of a sudden a nice jolt from behind the truck. A girl in a ford ranger hit my bumper. No damage at all, she had some light scuff marks on the plastic bumper valance of her truck.
This was a light hit, I have a roll pan I was hoping to put on but I can only imagine, the minor hit I had today would have done to that rollpan and bed of my truck. Think I should do it anyways or keep the bumper for protection? I swapped the bed once, due to rust, and don't want to have to do body work again!

Re: Getting bumped makes me want to keep my stepbumper!
I have been rear ended 5 times. One idiot totaled my 1970 Chevy Impala.
People in Joliet drive like a bunch of stupid idiots. I would like to put a piece of railroad track on the rear of my truck. Let them hit that. |

Have a hitch? If so, leave the ball in...

Re: Getting bumped makes me want to keep my stepbumper!
The same thing happened to me. I was stopped and bumped by a Ford Explorer II. Just scratches to his front bumper. My rear step bumper is welded to the scissor arms of my dump box conversion, so I found out later that he tweaked one of the arms, causing it to rub against the framing during dump box operation. I managed to pull it back out to clear the frame and it works OK. I was glad that I was not driving my new vehicle at the time. Driving is a lot more carefree with an old beater.

Re: Getting bumped makes me want to keep my stepbumper!
This is why im having a buddy custom make me a bumper out of C6 steel thats recessed at least 8" into the frame with lots of cross bracing. You could hit me with a tank and do no damage once i get it on there. Its also going to have a 2" receiver for my winch and trailer balls.

Re: Getting bumped makes me want to keep my stepbumper!
You could get a factory Blazer bumper, not quite as ugly as the step bumper and still good crash protection
Best pic I have of mine, originally ordered with this option.
