Help!

I HAVE A '55 PICK UP THAT WAS CONVERTED TO 4X4. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE FOR A DRIVE TRAIN, 454, TURBO350, NP 203 AND THE AXLES ARE, GM 10 BOLT UP FRONT AND 12 BOLT IN THE REAR. FIRST I'D LIKE TO IDENTIFY WHAT YEAR THE AXLES ARE (THE ONLY CLUE IS THAT THERE ARE DRUM BRAKES ALL AROUND. SECONDLY, CAN I SWAP OUT THE TURBO 350 AND 203, FOR A 700R AND A 205 WITHOUT CHANGING THE MOUNT OR DRIVESHAFTS? THANKS, NORM

hi norm ,, no dont qoute me but im almost positive the 700r4 is a bit longer than the 350 , if i were you and this comes from expiriance, dont go 700r4 behind a bigblock,,they wont hold up that long at least not as long as its older brothers the 400 or 350, if i were you i would just buy a th350 to 205 sleeve and adapter it would save you some headaches in the long run and you shouldnt have to change shafts if you just swap cases

HI MAC67,

THANKS FOR THE INFO! THE REASON I WANTED TO SWAP OUT THE 350 WAS FOR BETTER FUEL MILEAGE. I'M PRETTY GENTLE ON THE OLD GIRL. WILL THE 205 AND 203 SWAP OUT EASILY? NEVER TRIED A TRANSFERCASE BEFORE.

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN THE ARMED SERVICES!

THANKS, NORM

YEH THE SWAP FOR TRANSFER CASES IS A SNAP,,DONE QUITE A FEW,,YOU NEED TO SEARCH EBAY OR LOCAL SALVAGE YARDS FOR A TH350 TO A 205 SLEEVE AND THE ADAPTER THAT GOES BETWEEN THE 2 IF EBAY AND JUNK YARD HUNTIN DOESNT TURN UP ANYTHING GET AHOLD OF ADVANCED ADAPTERS THEY HAVE EVRYTHING YOU NEED, I KNOW YOU ALREADY KNOW THIS BUT ANYWAY YOU LOOK AT IT BIGBLOCK AND GAS MIALAGE DOESNT BELONG IN THE SAME SENTANCE SO I WOULD HANG WITH THE 350 OR 400 WELL OVER THE 700R4 , THEN SAVE YOURE MONEY AND BUY AN S-10 FOR MILAGE,HA HA HA,
