Re: Bellhousing question

The input bearing retainer diameter is larger on the truck transmissions, so the only way you can use a car transmission with a truck bell housing is to have an adapter ring made to reduce the hole in the truck bell to the size of the input bearing retainer on the car trans. I found a guy on the chevelle forums that makes these rings and got mine from him, I'll see if I can find his contact info.

Thanks man. I probably should have clarified my request a little better. I am trying to find out if the truck bellhousing that came with a 3 spd Saginaw in our trucks, is teh same as the bell that came in a truck with and SM465? This is for my new project " Miss Callie Mae ". You already know that I am using the aluminum bellhousing out of my 68' Camaro wiht my Muncie. How is the truck coming along?

Re: Bellhousing question

Am I going to be able to use my car bellhousing out of my camaro or will I be forced ti use the truck bell housing? I just had my 153 tooth flywheel resurfaced and already have a brand new hays clutch set up with a 10.4" Clutch. The difference really seems like the block mounted bell crank pivot ball for the car transmission versus the bell housing mounted bell crank pivot on the truck bellhousing.....happy Easter fellas!!!!

Re: Bellhousing question

Long as your block has the provisions for the pivot then you're fine. In fact I think all blocks at least had the pedestal for it, just not all were drilled/tapped. You may have to move the z-bar bracket forward on the frame to line the linkage back up though, and that would require a longer link between the clutch pedal and the z-bar......would be a good time to upgrade to an adjustable rod end type link instead of the old stock stuff that gets wallered out over time.
