Fan
My fan actually fell off this morning!! Looks like the clutch came apart.
Any way to bolt it solid with no clutch? |

Re: Fan
Time to upgrade to electric fan. Non clutch/flex fans are too dangerous IMHO.

Re: Fan
Just buy another clutch, unless you go electric.
The clutch will give you (SAP LESS) more power and economy then anything but an electric fan. It can be done, but you'd be downgrading a lot. |

Re: Fan
24.00 for a clutch and 99.00 for electric. That is soooo tempting!

Re: Fan
Dude, get on Ebay or go to a junk yard and get a Ford Taurus Fan. They are cheap, work amazing, and easy to install.

I prefer clutch fans. I got mine from the junkyard... very cheap.

Re: Fan
Do a clutch fan with an auxiliary electric. Works really good when towing while its hot out.

This is the fan I use. Its easy to mount and wire up with a Autozone Universal fan kit. I did the whole swap for under $50.00 I think. I recommend it one hundred percent. I like that is thin and pulls air like crazy. Do it. lol

Re: Fan
I don't like electric fans for two reasons:
1) If they are temperature controlled they rely on a temp sensor which is another gizmo to make me wonder if he fan is really turning on at the correct time. 2) If they are on all the time they are a hp/fuel drain on the vehicle. The radiator repair guys I have talked to about them have always recommended the stock fan/clutch setup on American vehicles that had them. If you have a high horse vehicle, then an electric fan makes sense as a secondary fan. I have an 83 C20 454 in the hottest place in the world and the stock clutch fan has not caused any cooling problem in the past 8 years. Is it possible for your truck to be "too cool" - I don't mean too cool looking but to cool in temperature? Last edited by tucsonjwt; 04-18-2011 at 07:32 PM. |

Re: Fan
Someone put a flex fan on my truck before I got it. Damned thing flew apart and chopped up a radiator hose, and then the balance issue must've caused the water pump to come apart somehow because it was leaking out of about 5 places. Bad news. Didn't know better but I do now. Picked up a stock clutch fan for $25 at a yard, and no problem since. Wouldn't mind an aux electric fan, just in case, but I hate trusting some little probably-China-made sensor that may or may not work to keep things cool when it matters. I like to think I check my gauges pretty often, but I can't sit and stare at them the whole time i'm driving to make sure everything is doing it's job. I like big, clunky, mechanical processes where if something's not working it's cause it's split in half or fell off. Easy to see, easy to fix.
