69 to a 67
Hey Guys, been collecting parts for my build. I started with a 69 SWB GMC. After the tear down all thats left is the cab and chassis. Since GMC core supports are extinct, I decided to go back as a 67 Chevy. I bought an entire front cap from a 67 CST thats in great shape except for the lower section of the right front fender and the core support. The support is actually fairly solid but a tree feel across it and caved it in in the center. Fortunately the hood was off when that happened. Now to my question. Who is the best source for a support that fits like it suppose to? A friend of mine almost gave up on a build because he couldn't find repro fenders that would even come close to fitting and matching bodylines. I don't have time for that crap. I would mention the company but I'm not 100% sure I remember the name correctly. Is the anything special I need to know about my conversion, or is it pretty straight-forward?
Thanks |

Re: 69 to a 67
I would try to find an OEM core support....repop stuff hasn't been know to fit great.....Since you are a subscribing member, I would post up a WTB (want to buy) ad in the parts section....I'm sure you can find another 67/68 core support.....I think brother's sells a repair section if the area under the battery is crap.....give it a go....
and good luck... BTW I assume since you are going 67 front clip, you know the marker lights aren't there....meaning when it comes time for a bed, you'll either have to find 67 bedsides or shave them on the 68-72 bedsides....

Re: 69 to a 67
I just bought a fleet bed thats in awesome condition. ($175 and the guy threw in both front fenders and 3 inner fenders) It even has a near perfect GMC tailgate, just my luck since I bought the Chevy clip. Go figure. My plans are to weld in patches for the sidemarkers. I was leaning heavy towards ordering the support from Brothers. I've heard a lot of great things about them. If I do post a WTB in the parts section how do I know I'm getting an OEM parts as opposed to a reproduction?

If you choose to go with Brothers, call them first and make sure the part is in stock. If you buy one off the parts Board, they'll let you know if the part is OEM or a repop.

You could trade that GMC gate for a Chevy gate too as sinister said, just make sure you state you want an original support, not repop....and ask for pictures...lots of pictures too....too bad you didn't go GMC...I got a real nice 70 GMC support (imagine that!!!!)

I'm thinking of going with a 67 front end on my 70 short step build. Where in Alabama are you?

Re: 69 to a 67
Geoff,
It's your lucky day!!! I can hook you up right on some GMC fenders.......for cheap too! That's what I love about this crazy hobby. You never know what you'll come across. Some cat will tell you he's got a primo this or that. You go look and it was pass its useable life a decade ago and he wants your first born for it! The next guy says, hey, I got some junk you can look at. You go look, it turns out to be a dream find and he asks, what will you give me for it? Case in point. Yesterday I traded a guy a leather duffle bag, even swap, for a full set of 17" black 6 lug chevy wheels and center caps. I was hesitant since the lug nuts were not included. I guess he saw me coming!! Like I said this hobby is JUST CRAZY, but I love it!! Danny |

Re: 69 to a 67
I have a 71 Chevy parts truck with great front sheet metal, but I love the 67 front end. I have a 67, two 70's, and a 71 and my 67 is my favorite.

Re: 69 to a 67
I owned a 72 SWB Stepper a few years ago. It was a driver, nothing special. Just a good, solid, dependable truck. It had a 350/300. Strong and fun to drive. I bought a newer truck and eventually decided to sell the 72. Regretted it ever since even tho the 72 isn't my favorite. I love the slopped hood of the 67/68. But the 67 is my all time favorite because of the lack of sidemarkers. It just a "cleaner" look IMO.

Re: 69 to a 67
That's what I'm saying. So I think I'm going to build the 70 short step with the 67 front end. Anybody wanna trade front panels?...

Re: 69 to a 67
Did it just damage the section above the radiator? I had a core support with a top section that was severely bent so I cut it out, straightened it and welded it back in. I originally planned to replace the section from an rusted out core (below the battery), but it straightened so nice, i welded it right back in!
