Progress on the '72

Well, things are going very slowly for me right now. We found a large amount of rust the "previous" body man covered up.

Dad and I will build patch panels for the hurt area's then treat everything else with POR-15 to stop the progression of the rust.
Today (Monday) I plan on having the cab complete (Rockers, patch panels in place) and be ready to tilt it backwards so the painting can begin. I'll undercoat the floor area then paint the firewall, once thats done I can lower the cab back down and begin sanding EVERYTHING. The prep work stage right now is slow but hopefully tonight things should look alot better.

The only real suprize thus far has been the rust but its almost gone now... Things are starting to take shape now.
I have to admit, I was extremely intimidated at first... Dad said "Don't worry" its only metal... if we screw up, we'll cut it out and weld new in. LOL He cut and welded the first panel in while I watched. Today I cut and welded in the right side on my own, I think my side looks better LOL but I wont tell him that!

Its tough to keep remembering, this is a daily driver. I would have replaced the entire floor pan but we opt'ed to just place a patch panel over the top of the old (cut out) rust area. It's not the best way but with time and resources being a concern, I think a patch will work just fine.

I'll post more pics and info in a few days... BACK TO WORK

What a coincidence, I'm involved in the same thing right now! My buddy who is doing the brunt of the work is very nonchalant, while I'm stressing big time as I see my baby getting cut up. It's coming together for both of us.
