What to do about my drip rail :(

So this last year of rain and neglect on my part has taken it's toll on my trucks drip rail. Prior to the paint job (which is now about 4 years old), I had removed the rust on the rail and applied new leveling sealer. Now it has began to rust rapidly and I'm trying to decide what to do about it..

1) Sand it down and repair it myself (rattle can).
2) Get some quotes from the local body shops to repair it
3) Remove the drip rail all together (I'm not sure how involved that would be but likely the most expensive option).

I love my truck dearly, but that drip rail makes me

Is that rust under the drip rail also on the drivers side above the windshield?

Re: What to do about my drip rail :(

Id say try it yourself and buy a decent paint gun and go for it. Check out the autobody section on this site, they talk a lot about rust prevention and what works best. Or you can check out the forum at www.autobodystore.com also they have some good info. Either way make sure you get it all down to bare metal first.

I'm no body man but there are 3 layers of sheet metal in the drip rail sand witched together, your going to have to get all that seam sealer out of the drip rail and spray something in there thats going to wick into the seam and kill the rust that you cant sand or its going to come back again because its probably doing the same thing on the inside too., also take a close look on the inside above the visors for bubbling too.

Not sure but i think there may also be a drip rail repair kit avalable somewhere too.

Re: What to do about my drip rail :(

Greubin, go to www.rustbullet.com and watch the videos. I've used RustBullet before and (I'm NOT getting paid for this) it is without doubt THE BEST system for Rust prevention and it stops rust COLD, PERIOD.
Watch the test videos and it'll explain everything. I'm using it right now on my Truck.

I had some rust under the Battery tray and on the inner fender, very common on our trucks. I couldn't afford a new inner fender, so I researched the H**L outta everything on the market and RustBullet was my choice.
Glad I bought it and the results are fantastic.
You can Brush it on, Spray it on, Sand it down, shot primer over it and then paint over that.

Look around at all the others, but when you're ready to get serious, get RustBullet.

Re: What to do about my drip rail :(

I'd find a donor top and replace the top. I've done this a few times, and IMO it's the easiest way.

I don't have any pics, but a friend of mine might. I'll see if I can get any. If you decide to go this way, let me know, and I will point you in the right direction. By the way, where are you located?
