Cool Newbie.

Hello im new to the board I just recently purchased a 1978 chevy short bed custom deluxe 2wd it has a small block 350 th350. I have been searching all over for messageboards to find a palce to ask questions and this one looks really good and a real tight group here.

I found my truck on a car lot the guy wanted $2000 for it and i picked it up for $1700. the truck is in pretty good shape. I will have to get some pics of her up to show you the conditon. i have pulled the manifold and carb off it was to much for the engine. it originally had a edlebrock streetmaster manifold with a holley carb im not sure what the cfm is for the carb but when i would get up on it the valves rattled and it was terrible. so i put a edlebrock 2101 non egr performer with a edelbrock 650cfm and it runs alot better. I am having some problems with the engine missing at a idle and its got me stumped it runs smooth as can be when i drive it. if you have any ideas what could be the problem im all eyes.lol Oh i have timed the engine to 8degress BTC.

Also the streetmaster manifold has the hole in the front for the old oil tube. I want to sell it but need to know how much its possibly worth.

Well i hope to be on here alot and hope you guiys can help me out. i will be restoring my truck over time as much as i can afford and do.

Thanks MSL

Thanks for the welcomes glad to be apart of the community.

Ok as for the miss its like it stumbles at a idle but picks back up. when it misses it skips from smooth then its like a thud type miss i feel it in the cab it doesnt shake and no popping out of the exhaust. I might lean towards the vacum mod. the truck shifts a little rough not bad its just a little bit. No trans fluid from line in fact it fell off one time and i had to put it back on so no fluid. I have HEI dist. i changed the plugs about a month ago and the plugs from cylinder 3 and 5 didnt look as good as all the rest and thats where im feeling the miss is on the drivers side. number 3 plug had some oil on the threads and 5 had some build up. all the rest where fine.

Lightbulb cyl leak down

well the only thing to do then is a cyl leak down test to check valve seal and rings---- if rings,,, may have blow by in air filter if you have the positive crank case vent still hooked to air filter???
the leak down will point you to engine or the ign.ststem,,,still my be vac problem...you can spray carb cleaner--w-d 40--around intake and carb base...if leaking should idle-up do with engine cool as possible and be careful dont start a fire keep extingusher
near by(i know its spelled wrong) let me know
