My oil pressure guage is reading around 30-40 pounds of pressure at around 2000 rpm. If memory serves me, isn't it to be around 50 at same rpm?

I'm running a 350 chevy, 4bbl edlebrock, more of our vintage in heads.

Hoping the aftermarket gauge is not working on the blood pressure side after I disconnected it when painting.

Idling at 20 pounds of pressure.
Driving anywhere between 40-50 pounds of pressure depending on rpm range.

For a standard pump that is about right. Mine is close to that.

Thats perfectly fine. Rule of thumb is 10 psi for every 1k rpm is acceptable.You have a healthy engine.

concur, 30-40 is ok at 2K rpm - you may be used to seeing higher pressure on newer engines - or newly rebuilt older engines, but if it aint broke, don't fix it, that's my motto. (but then again, I've grenaded two engines to the tune of an inopportune rebuild and a few $$.... Sooo, disregard everything I just said). (Just kidding, I DO think 30-40 is just fine at 2K)

I always heard as long as you got like 14 or so on idle it's good and as long as it doesn't go to zero while driving etc.

I've had several though, all mech gauges aftermarket,

the 88 k1500 I got runs about 60 cold and stays that way, once warm and idle drops to around 30 or so.

the 86 k10 dad had was around the same, 20-40 warm on idle, 40-60 warm running and driving.

the 84 c10 305 he had runs 25 psi cold on idle, not sure on driving yet.

The motor he now has in his 84 c10 we built for another truck, it runs 50-75 warm on idle, 100-125 cold on idle and revving. it used to stay pegged at 125 cold revving, and would only drop to 100 once warm and idle. Now it's about 10 years old and it drops to around 50 or so once warm on idle. I think he put in a HP pump though, he kept saying it was a HV pump but it's a stock oil pan, I heard you need added quarts to run an HV pump or else you can suck the pan dry.
