Axle housings New again....?

I know this is a big debate: Powder coat or not powder coat..... I have already powder coated my frame so that's not the question, but I need to do something with my rusty axle housings this week . I going to gut'em out & I'm thinking of blasting them and then powder coating them as well. I want them to look smooth, no brush strokes, evenly applied. Will they chip up easier if powder coated? What are my options.. Any pics of axle re do’s would be appreciated ….. Heck all advice is appreciated. Thanks

I use POR-15 chassis coat semi gloss under my rigs. I use a sponge type brush to apply it. The stroke marks flow out nicely and make it look like it was sprayed on. It looks factory Black. Whenever I drag the axles over rocks I just touch it up the same way. I like the idea of powder coating but I don’t like not having a easy way to touch up.

I've heard a little about POR-15 How's the prep, does need a primer ? That was also my thoughts about powder coating my axles... how to repair chips. Although I'll only be doing light off-roading with this one. THANKS...

Powder will last better than most people think, if it's done right. I have had both axles, bumpers, and all four wheels done on my 2006 2500HD for a few years now. With a little cleaning they look great. If your rock crawling then yes maybe not the best idea, but would still keep it nice and rust free.
