torque specs & sequence & uprgades
I am putting an edelbrock intake to conver a 92 suburban 350 block to carb. Now is that block considered an LT1? What is the torque amount and sequence for the intake bolts. I have bad luck with intakes i always torque too much and always break the bolts. So if anyone knows of a good how to to make sure i am doing it right i would really appreciate it. Also any upgrades i should probably do while i have the engine out....

Re: torque specs & sequence & uprgades
if its stock, its not an lti, its a tbi motor. google the torque specs and sequence, i know its not very much.. for sure should not be breaking any bolts here. how many miles does the motor have? is it original? while its out you might want to throw a timing chain and a bunch of new caskets at it, maybe even a coat of paint

Re: torque specs & sequence & uprgades
The torque value and sequence should have come in the box with the manifold if it's new.

Re: torque specs & sequence & uprgades
You normally do not need to torque an intake. There is no reason for you to tighten intake bolts to the point that you break them. Start from the inside and criss cross them in even steps, not really a big deal. After you warm the truck up, go back and retighten them in a criss cross patern. If you're unsure of how strong you are, tighten them with your hand on the head of the ratchet to reduce torque.

Re: torque specs & sequence & uprgades
yes there is.... but who really pulls out their torque wrench for 5 ft.lbs... intakes just need to be snug.

Shorty- When in doubt, look up the torque specs for the size, and grade of the bolt you are using. I don't really torque intake bolts, but if you can, by all means... I can't even get a torque wrench on my high-rise... I notice some differing opinions on torque specs, but whats a couple pounds between friends... I always go straight to torque spec sheets when I need to torque a part, but don't have the manual. At the same time, 90% of the time if you cross reference service manuals to basic torque spec sheets, you'll notice they are the same... http://www.portlandbolt.com/technica...que-chart.html Edit, Oh! And torque patterns are the in most cases a circular pattern. Starting from the center, and working your way out in a clockwise pattern. Although the proper tightening sequence for a intake is a real head scratcher... You can see what I mean on the last picture. http://www.small-block-chevy.com/assemblyspec.html
