diamond in the rough? (found a '72 blazer)

got a questions for you all:

i have a friend who tells me he has an old blazer that was his dads, and he want's to get rid of it. at first, he tells me it's a '77, with a v8. well, turns out it's a '72 K5 blazer, with the inline 6, automatic 4wd (obviously, since it's a K5). it suppsosedly runs, but needs a little work on the carb. it's rusty, and it needs a top, but the front clip is in real good shape. i'm just wondering what is it worth as it sits? i'm not sure about mileage. it is green in color. the tires are shot, but hey - it runs, and it's a neat old blazer. any help? please let me know what you think. thank you.

the rust is on the doors, and the rear quarters (probably like them all, i assume...). unfortunately, it is buried in a garage full of crap, so i haven't seen the entire vehicle yet, just the front half. he's supposed to pull it out within the next couple of weeks. therefore, i don't have any pics of it. it's located in Dixon, IL (northern IL). he's only looking to get a couple hundred bucks out of it, if that. i'm thinking i could pick it up for $100, then either work on it, and keep it, or sell it and make a few bucks. or, i could be an honest friend (if i don't want it) and tell him what to really sell it for. i hope this info helps. thanks in advance!

Well, just to give you an idea of what it's worth, my neighbor (he lives 7 miles away.....but still a neighbor....bought a 72 blazer about 15 years ago....it was bad rusty and he did a body off restoration on it. Anyway, it was running, but needed a rebuild and he paid $900 for it......he figured it was cheap compared to the rusty GMC Jimmy my friend had in high school.......floor boards shot, fenders bent up.....hood didin't fit good anymore, rear quarters and tailgate rusty and the top was cracked. It also had a roll bar welded to the floor. My buddy gave $1500 for his and sold it for $1200 a couple years later. Both of these trucks had 350's in them and both were bought about 10-15 years ago. I'd give 1200 for one in the condition you described.

Well I guess I should be specific, the Chicagoland area. It is like a whole other world than other parts of Illinois.
