Exclamation I just found a gold mine! *newbie post*

And it's right here!

I just wanted to alert the forum that another enthusiast has joined the ranks. I've had my '86 Silverado since I was 16 and no matter who offers to buy it or what vehicle I think about trading it on...I just refuse to part with it. It's a sad, lonely friend on jackstands in the garage, but I'm hoping to change that.

My future plans are:
EFI 383
built TH-400
limited slip diff w/ 3.73's
rack and pinion IFS
tire huggin' drop
fuel cell
shaved fuel doors
shaved handles/locks
body molding delete
89-91 front grille/headlight transplant
wooden bed
fiberglass bedcover
leather buckets

I know I'm forgetting some stuff, but after eight years of daydreaming it all seems to run together

EDIT: Thanks to Mike @ www.73-87.com for the link to this UBB!

Hey, glad you decided to join us. You'll have fun for sure. Never a dull moment. I see you are from Marion. Not too far from me.

I'm glad to see more Tarheels joining ranks here.

Sounds like a cool ride for sure and great plans. You know it's manditory to come in here with photos, right? Where's yours??

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

CT-Truckster,

The EFI I'm looking into is the Accel DFI. I thought about transplanting an LS1 as I'm pretty familiar with it, but the costs are high when you want to overbore, overstroke, etc. I could buy three or four trucks for the cost of a stroked LS1. I plan on going with the Accel system on a four-bolt longblock.

Mike,
Tarheel country! That's right. I love your site and plan to use it as a resource along with the forum. I've got photos of my Ol' Grey on the www link in my profile. He's seen better days

Mark,
I know it'll be a problem getting off the keyboard an into the garage. That's why my truck is still on jackstands
I'll have to sell my car before I can get any serious work done though. Money is tight these days and my wife and I are expecting a little shop helper in July

I've been keeping an eye open for a virgin 400 block, but they're hard to find around here. Maybe I'll luck out one day. I'd even settle for a 2-bolt if I could just find one that wasn't wallered out.

I want to stick with a SBC because I like to see people raise a brow when they see the dyno sheet and say "You got this...out of that?"

I've even been toying with the notion of de-stroking a 400 to around 360ci to keep that big bore and put the redline to the moon. I'm all about odd combos

THANK GOD! We got ourselfs a keeper guys

I thought I was only guy who dosent care about lossing a few cubes for the added RPM's. RPM's are just so much fun! FYI: a 400block with 350 crank [4.125" bore and 3.48" stroke] gives a 377, same as a 350 block and 400 crank [4" bore and 3.75" stroke]
If you want even more revs, try a 3.25" crank from a LJ 327. Thats somthing like 350cid or so.

Why sure. Did you expect anything else? He is from North Carolina you know. Most of us are like this. And all you guys thought we were nothing but a bunch of redneck hicks.

Just because I sound funny, don't mean I am.

I'm thinking a 3.562" stroke with the 4.125" bore for a 381...never heard of anybody with one of those

Hell, I might even have it punched out another .030 and bring it to 386ci. Similar displacement to a traditional stroker, but it will see a couple grand more of the tach.
