need help laying rocker
I have a few? ? About attempting to lay rocker. I already have pb front and rear set ups laying the frame, also have a 2 inch Z up front (laying 24's). The truck is slowly coming back together and I already know I wont be happy until I lay the rockers. My ? Is how much do I need to raise my cab floor? And will I have enough lift to run 24's with around 31 to 32 inch tall tires? I know pb offers a bolt on body drop but that will only get me down to the pinchweld and my frame has just been powdercoated. Thanks.

Re: need help laying rocker
Can you post some pics of the build so far? Also, I have seen dudes cut the top of the frame where the cab sits, to do a stock floor body drop. That might be the best route for you.
I was gonna lay rockers on mine but decided to keep the pinch's to keep the body damage minimal when dragging.

Re: need help laying rocker
It's a 68,sorry... With it being only 1 inch, do I need to cut and raise the whole floor or is there another way? What should I expect to pay for this mod.? Anyone out there running 24's? Thanks

My only concern would be fitting the 31-32 inch wheel under the hood all 3, a z'd frame, dropmember AND a body drop...I'd do some careful measure before going through all of that to make sure they'll fit.

Re: need help laying rocker
Thanks for the input guys, I wish I'd thought of cutting the top of the frame sooner but its too late now. My frame has already been powder coated.
OK this might be a stupid idea but here goes. Would it be OK (safe) to cut down the "rails" under the cab that come in contact with the fame where the cab bushings go? Here's a pic of what I'm referring too. And a pic of why cutting the frame is not an option. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: need help laying rocker
It sounds like the best way for you to go is the Porterbuilt body drop. Just pop the digits of the body mounts powdercoat the new pb mounts and bolt them up! Regardless you have to cut the front frame horns where the radiator support mount up. And your frame already being powdercoated you would have to weld right there! Just my input and you will be laying body!

Re: need help laying rocker
How tall are your 24's? GVizzle posted in your build thread that he is laying pinch on 30" tall rear tires. Call Nate and get the 1" body drop mounts. That's going to get you pretty close. If thats not enough, its going to get expensive from there.
I saw that your wheels were stolen. Did you get them back yet? Personally, I think 24's are too big, but thats just me. Your going to need to decide if its more important to lay out on 24's or go with 22's and save some grief.

Re: need help laying rocker
hey kevin at grunions told me he has cut the rails under the cab on a square he built and it worked out awesome for him. I forgot about that option until you said something. If you google grunions in phoenix just ask for kevin, hes a cool dude as far as I know and may be able to give you pointers.

Re: need help laying rocker
N2TRUX....I think he's talking about cutting the rails on the cab down, not the chassis/frame rails....

Re: need help laying rocker
Ya know, I think you are correct. Man that seems like it would open up a huge can of worms. Getting the cab, clip, and bed modified to line up would be a nightmare.

Re: need help laying rocker
Thanks guys... great input, luv this forum. I'm gonna cut down the rails under the cab and as far as the bed I'm going to raisebthe floor accordingly. I've never seen it done so I wondered if there was a safety issue...once again thanks to all for the input.

Re: need help laying rocker
you gonna have to run skinny tire fosho!!
I personally think that 24's are two big if you gonna body drop. But thats just me. My truck was designed to be low with big wheels and function. so we figured 20 22 combo best suits.....I have been considering 22's for the front but I cant find the tire size that will match the tread pattern for the size I want in the rear. I guess it depends what your goals are....... |
