gas tank vent

I pulled the gas tank out of my 71 2wd cause the gauge doesn't work and the tank straps were on backwards (some folks go to lot of trouble to do things wrong). There are two small (3/8?) vents (?) on the sides near the top. One on each side. Are these vents? Do they need to be hooked up? And to what? Any help appreciated. I'm dumb on gas tanks. The gauge problem was easy - no ground connection.

Re: gas tank vent

Yep, those are vents that go to the container assembly (stand) that is located inside the truck next to the filler neck. That stand has three lines that come out of it: one for each side of the tank while the third goes to the charcoal canister. Do you have any of the lines left that go from the tank to the stand?

Also, check these out for a better explanation:

What is this goofy thing?

Re: gas tank vent

Thanx for the info. I have nothing left of any of these lines. Guess I'll have to start from square one.
