Inline 6 250 Crankshaft question

Sorry if this is a dumb question but here goes. Should my stock 69 crankshaft snout have threads for a balancer hold down bolt? New project for me and my daughter. Looking with a mirror found no threads in there. If there are no threads, how do you screw in the tool to install the balancer. Might be a mute point because keyway is stretched and new balancer simply slides on by hand. thanks

There is no threaded hole in your crankshaft. To install the balancer you have to tap it into place with a block of wood and hammer.

If it slides in by hand it will slide back out. The balancer should be a tight fit. Most have to be hammered in as Tx mentioned. If you ever have it off at any time in the future have it drilled and tapped for a bolt.

If you get a new balancer be sure and remove the radiator.

Re: Inline 6 250 Crankshaft question

Thanks for the info. The new balancer just slid on. Too loose. The keyway is also stretched out. Looks like tie for a new crank or v8 time. Thanks for all the info.
