68c10 swaping to disc need help on reading vin on donor truck for yr of spindles

I got the spindles and tie rods of i believ a 70-73c10 to put on my68 cant get right balljoints vin of donor truck is cs141f833030 just need to know exact yr to order correct balljoints please help.

70 spindles would be drum brakes. 71-87 spindles are disc brakes and are the same except for the upper ball joint. Buy a 72 and a 73 ball joint and see which fits. Then you'll know for sure. Also, if the donor truck looked similar to yours then 71-72, because 73 and newer are a whole different body style.

thanks guys i just coulndt seem to decode it n i took pics of the balljoints n the tops deffinately look different then on my 68 n the bottoms are just a little bit different shank size so i just need to order 71 uppers then is wut u are saying

did you grab the center link off the donor too or are you using the 68 one?

i grabed the tie rods but not the actual center piece do i need it?

yes....the centerlink is different for 67-70 and 71/72 trucks....or you'll have to use different inner and outer tie rods and a modified adjusting sleeve for the 68 centerlink....i personally would try to stay with all the same stuff, because I would end up forgetting what I did

i can always go back n get the center link from the truck at the junkyard anything else i needso i dont have to make more trips the way gas prices are haha? and will the centerlink bolt on to the 68 steering components i already have?

In short, no the 68 stuff will not bolt up to the 71/72 steering centerlink.....

Actually you have to move the 68 outers to the inner location.
They are LH thread.
This will allow you to connect them to the 71 outers,... which are RH thread.

ok on the tie rods i ight not need to by the conversion sleeve at all just put the 68 outer on the inside then thread on the 71 outer to it?

You will need the conversion sleeve.
68 tie rods are 5/8" diameter.
71 tie rods are 11/16" diameter.

You will need both 71 upper and lower ball joints if your spindles came from a 71.

please help i got everything for the disc brake swap except tie rod sleeves the websites u stated have just regular one the same size thread n both ends do i have tocall them or is there specific onei cannot seem to find????

ok so those ones will work with the 71 tie rods even tho it says 73 because its the conversion

seems like you are having fun with your front suspension....when i did my front suspension on my 68, i converted over to 5 lug disc. i used....

71 stock spindles
71 moog upper and lower ball joints
71 inner and outer tie rods and adjusting link
71 drag link(for steering)
80's model powersteering box( new)
80's model pitman arm

i had no problems. it all bolted right up.

YES.
'71 tie rods are the same 11/16" diameter as the 73-87 tie rods.
I have '71-'72 spindles on my red '69 swb with these exact tie rod sleeves from Performance Online.
