3/4 ton leaf springs on1/2 ton????

Hey, guys my truck is a 1/2 ton shortbed. The previous owner of my truck lowered the rear with hangers/shackles and for some reason they removed a leaf spring or 2.

I'm worried about hauling a trailer with it.

I'm planning on adding helper bags, air shocks, and caltracs so that I can haul my car hauler and still be able to hook up on weekends at the track.

Should I also swap to 3/4 ton leaf springs as well? I'd like to tow my car hauler which is pretty heavy. Makes my 2010 tahoe squat way to bad for hauling to give u an idea of how heavy it is.

I have 3/4 springs laying in my garage already so I wouldn't have to buy any.

Thanks guys!

I think they will bolt right up I just don't know if it is worth doing. I also dont want my ride quality to be way worse.

3/4 ton springs will ride a lot stiffer than the 1/2 ton springs... If you plan on putting helper bags in the mix, I would stick with the original lighter springs, you'll just have to put the bags to work more often.

If it is loaded properly, your trailer shouldn't have a problem with helper bags. The bags will let you level it out no problem...

Sounds like you might be running to much tongue weight though if your Tahoe is dropping down to much.

What is your trailer weight fully loaded?

I vote for helper bags. You can adjust to fit your needs vs the C20 springs that will always ride like C20 springs.

Unless the truck already had HD leafs, you will need to move the rear hagers back on the frame to the HD hanger location (there are already holes there BTW)

Will a shortbed have those holes?

Re: 3/4 ton leaf springs on1/2 ton????

While we are on the subject... what about a 4-link, helper bags, and new shocks? Would that setup ride better than the leaf springs? I could just air them up when needed, it doesn't require any frame cutting, and it would be like an air ride system too...

Would that work or are the helper bags not designed to have support on them all the time?

Yup, my shortbed had them (HD springs) from the factory, and the hangers touch the rear bumper brackets.

That explains why my shackles are layin over on tha hangers & it's ride hight. My pop's thought that tha springs may have been swaped.

If your going to do a 4 link you don't want to run the small "helper" bags. You will need a full size bag at that point.
