What is this dash switch/button?

PO (or PPO or PPPO, etc.) hacked my truck up good. New wiring harness is here and ready to go in when it warms up enough outside. Then I might get things back to normal with working lights, signals, gauges, etc. But can anyone identify this switch/button on my dash, it's a soft rubber bubble button? The wiper switch was relocated to the choke hole on the right side of the dash and this thing sits in the original wiper hole. It's so far up in the dash I haven't tried to follow the backside (or even know if it's plugged into anything in the birdsnest of wire, tape, wirenuts, and bubblegum in there).

Re: What is this dash switch/button?

What happens when you push it? If it is a momentary button my guess would be it was wired as a fix for a non working horn.

Re: What is this dash switch/button?

That activates the time circuts and the flux capaciter, at 88mph hold on!

In all seriousness I would guess horn or windshield washer

nothing happens, but then again nothing electrical except the ignition, horn, and right headlight works. The horn works as it should by the center of the S wheel.

Just looked at the altenator too, internally regulated with only the red wire attached and the old external voltage regulator is completely unplugged (meaning that red wire goes nowhere?). Know why I can't keep a battery charged? I do....now.

Re: What is this dash switch/button?

This why I'm ripping it all out and starting new. Replacing the whole dash cluster too while I'm at it. Wife isn't real happy about this old beater for Home Depot and trash dump runs is becoming such a project, but I can't take it more than a couple miles till I get the inspection sticker. And that requires things like head lights, signals, brake lights, ... you know.

88mph, it would have to get up the hill first so it could get to 88 going down.

Maybe the PO bypassed the "squirt" feature on the wiper motor? If it doesnt work on the wiper switch, maybe thats it? Other than that....no clue.

Since wipers don't work and washer rubber hoses are cut who knows. Just reached up and followed the wires from the button and they go... nowhere, just like everything else.
Thanks for the help.

Re: What is this dash switch/button?

That looks like a starter button that I installed into a old MH I owned several years ago. If the wireing is as much of a mess as you say more than likely one of the POs probaly had a problem with the starter circit so they wired this up. Or it could also be used as a bypass to allow a second onboard battery to start the motor in the event of a dead main battery, or anyware else a high amp draw is required...

Re: What is this dash switch/button?

my guess would be, high beam switch moved from floor. but if it ain't connected to anything, then the possibilities would be limitless.

Re: What is this dash switch/button?

Boy your truck sounds just like how mine was. When I drove it home, in the dark only one head light worked no tail or brake lights. All kinds of switches under the dash that went nowhere. When you install your harness you will be very pleased, take your time and good luck.

How about a panic button? You do have good brakes right.
