U joints questions
I searched and couldn't find my answer.
Is the stock u-joint for a 69 3/4 GMC 4 speed/dana 60 a 1350 u-joint? Pretty sure it is, just double checking? Second question: What u-joint was used in 73+ 12 bolt rear ends? I'm not sure if the rear end I have is out of a 2wd or 4wd or what exactly. All I know is that it is a 12 bolt and does not have the ear on the pumpkin for the panhard bar. I assume that it is a 73+ because the front suspension from the same vehicle was 73+ also. So I figure someone at some point swapped this in from the same donor vehicle. The u-joint appears to be a 1330 series or something very close...but the u-joint doesn't seat completly. It's been awhile since I looked at it....so I'm doing some preliminary research. |

my 67 and 76 12 bolts are both 1310. You gotta look out for those 1330 and 1310 big cup ujoints used on some ford stuff.

The 69 3/4 ton is a 1350

OK, thanks for the info on the 69...I was pretty sure on that.
After posting this, and memories coming back, my rearend definatly doesn't have 1310. It uses a u-joint that is / or very close to a 1330, which would be the same width as a 1350, but with small caps. I'll need to take some measurements. |

their isn't an accurate ujoint application guide anywhere! 1330 is same width as 1350 but with the cups of a 1310.

Good news is I figured out why my rear u-joint wasn't seating. The grease zirk buldge in the middle of the body protruded out enough that it was hitting the pinion (just barely). So I took out the u-joint and flipped it around so the grease zirk bulge is towards the driveshaft rather than the rearend. So the rearend I have does have a 1330 pinion yoke (whatever its from)
Next, I'll be ordering a longer driveshaft yoke to compensate for the different rearend. Hopefully that will resolve the vibration issues. Thanks for the help guys. |
