Need some roof opinions......
Okay so my roof is pretty ruff, My question to all of you out there is should i try and buy a inner front panel and fix the outer skin or should I just cut it off and weld another decent one in place of it. I have somthing set up to get another roof for free. But lets get some feedback.

I had a cab like that and I scrapped it. It also had issues around both fresh air vents in the kick panels. (and other places)... LockDoc

Everything on the cab is good except the roof. Rockers, and cab corners have already been replaced.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
In TX you should be able to find a whole cab for relatively cheap and save yourself the time and expense of replacing that roof.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
lol.... yea it is pretty bad. But the really bad part is that sombody ( PO ) has some sort of copper filling all over the roof, i'm assuming it was where all the prior rust was...

Re: Need some roof opinions......
The best plan would be to graph in halfway to the back of the door, half way down the pillar and a good 12 inches towards the center of the truck. There is at least 3 panels in that general area and odds are thay are all in pretty rough shape. Doing the inner and outer skins is a bit of a pain but it can be done with patience, finding and replacing the middle panel is a complete pain. Find a good cab or replace the whole top. The last 2 allow you the option of getting them cleaned and primed to do the swap in a weekend. Been there doing that.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
we swapped roofs in my 69 LWB project, check my signature... wasn't too hard but if you have a better cab then i'd go that route.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
Well I talked to one of our buddies on the board here and he is gonna meet me in Humble on sunday to drop off the roof, free of charge. Cant beat that so cutting off the roof and welding the used back on is the plan for now.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
Brace the cab, across the door openings, & an x cross the middle wouldnt hurt, before you cut the top off. Leave the doors on, & "fit" the new top to the truck. Take your time, & cut the pillars a tad long(grind to fit)....best of fun, crazyl

Re: Need some roof opinions......
Here is some pictures in my build thread.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...2&postcount=12 When I did this no one sold roof skins but the inside header was available. See how bad it really is by removing the header panel. You are not gonna buy another top that is not rusting already inside.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
If rust isn't fully removed it will come back. You can pay now or pay later...my vote goes for a new roof.

Re: Need some roof opinions......
Well I have everything fitted up the best to my ability. Hoping to have everything on the roof welded up this weekend. I have been working pretty hard on getting all the front end stuff done, after the roof is finished it "should" be smooth sailing.... ( knock on wood )
