Talking maybe some subs on the way

A friend of mine at school rolled and totaled his car, and is selling his subs and amp. The Subs are 10" Pioneers and the amp is a Jenson. He wants $140 for them. Do you guys think thats a good idea?

Don't know about the subs, but Jenson products are not top of the line stuff, you know. Seems fairly high to me. Especially when you can buy real nice amps for a hundred bucks or so.

no they dont come with a box. He had a hatch back box he was gonna put in with it for an extra $30 but I told him I didnt want it. Even if Jenson is a cheap brand I dont think the amp is as big a deal to worry about had they been subs I'd be a little worried about their quality.

For that setup you could get it for about 50 bucks.
Heck...check around Pawn shops..you can find some decent deals there.

Its an ok deal.
You can buy a good amp for around $200. You can find them on sale. I currently have a Sony explode (2ch 780 watt) that works pretty damn well. Im happy with it. More happy with this then with high dollar fosgate and stuff like that. Even nicer then an old alpine a friend had.
You can buy (2) 12's on sale for $100 brand new from Circuit City. Watch for sales.
Jensen amps are not high quality and are not high dollar either. I currently have a Jensen pushing some tweets and 6x9's. It does a great job and its a trooper. I have had it for awhile. It just keeps going. It outlasted a fosgate amp of a similar size. Not only did it outlast, but I couldnt tell the different, power or quality wise between the two. I have a 2channel 300watt Jensen. They dont make this one anymore, but they make one similar. I dont think I would buy the newer Jensen. But only for one reason, the new Jensen doesnt have controls on the side, they are on the top. I dont like that, because I have my smaller amp mounted under the drivers seat so that I can adjust high's from track to track.

I have just under $650 in my entire sterio system. I always buy on sale. If I would have paid regular price it would have been atleast $875. I know $650 sounds like alot but thats for a Panasonic CD player, 2 amps (sony explode, jensen), 2-12's in boxes (Kenwoods in Q-logic), 2-6x9's (Kenwood 4-way), 2 tweets (Boss, I think), wiring (misc.), fuse block (fosgate), and fuses (fosgate, but switching to radio shack with built in light).

Just a few tips, make sure you install everything correctly. Come here if you need help. Alot of guys know their stuff. Make sure you properly fuse your wiring. When running wires for amp keep your RCA cables as far as possible from your power and remote wire, this causes engine noise in the sterio.

This sounds like what happens in the morning when I go into reverse to back out of the driveway!! Otherwise I never notice it...

so far I have an Alpine Am/Fm/cass. radio with an Alpine six disk changer that I need to get installed. I paid $100 for that. I looked up the subs and the amp on www.bestbuy.com and they cost about what double I'm gonna pay. I don't trust Pawn shop stuff very much. I do have an amp I bought for a dollar at a garage sale but I'm not sure if it works.

personally, i dont think its anywhere near a good deal. Pioneer subs suck, of course i'm used to listening to JLs, JBLs, and Infinity Perfects.

This was sale prices. It adds up with two amps, 2 12 subs, 4 tweeters, 2 mid bass, and Q-logic kick panels. Heck my MP3/CD player was close to $400.00 by itself, on sale BTW.

Oh, and this isn't counting the rear speaker box.

I have a pioneer premier cd player and kicker 5 1/4 door speakers and next week im buying kicker 6x9's. I bought an amp off my friend for $50 to hook up to my speakers. This summer I plan on buying 2 JL Audio10's. I dont like to buy audio stuff used any more because if you dont have that warranty it sucks.

Nope. I don't really think that is a good deal at all either. You can get a set of Pioneers cheap. Just look around. Even try ebay. Jensen is also not adding anything to the deal.
BTW, Mike still payed less than I did for mine. Wish I was still living at home and could still spend money like that. Maybe it wouldn't be sitting there. Hmm....

84stepper: I agree, just buy new. Its better in the long run.

See swervin thats why, you go and get these fancy sterios
Mine was half that but it doesnt play mp3s I would love to have one that does and when this one goes Im getting one that does.
Mike, ever thought about adding a tv to your setup, I think it would be sweet. If I can get a deal on a sterio,mp3,dvd,tv player Im gonna mount one in the dash (middle airvent). My brother just put a tv in his new truck, looks good. Got the screen and the cd/mp3/dvd player for $300. Cant remember the brand, got it through a wholesaler friend.

Yeah I know. But after building the console, I couldn't bring myself to put the old Sony CD in there, you know? The MP3 player is bad to the bone. I love it. It sure is nice to burn a MP3 CD and be able put them in folders, such as the singers name or what ever you want. Then stick it in and select between folders. Oh, it will hold probably 200 MP3's on one disk at 128 Kbs. I never turn the radio on anymore.

Hey, besides, it's only money and I really enjoy my setup a bunch.

BTW, it's a Pioneer DEH-P8400MP

I would rather spend alot on something that lasts, then blow it on little things here and there. When I have money I spend it
Makes it hard to get a big project going.

Well, I'm fairly cheap with my stereo setup - spending around 500.00 total for the current setup in my truck.

I have a 500wt Jensen AMP - Hey, they are pretty much bottom of the line, wal-mart crap. But I've owned three of them and they all still work.

I have a Sony CDX-650 deck. Two years old or so, I pulled it out of my Volvo and installed it into the truck. It's in the hacked up spot on my dash, but maybe one day I'll get the consol done - or have talked mike into making one. :p I think it looks much better mounted there, instead of a giant sore in the bezel.

I have Four Infinity Kappa 693.5i 6x9 speakers. Mounted in the cab corners. Two behind the seats and two in the doors. Overall they provide good high-mid ranges, however the low end at times is over-powering, and at other times is weak. It sounds good, speakers ran me about 175.00 (One of those shady 'deals')

pioneer 10's

i have some pioneer gold 10's

if the emblem on the dust cones are gold then they are decent subs. i have a set and they hit pretty hard with the right sealed air-space. i used 1.5 cu ft of air-space for each sub...hits the high and low bass pretty good. i would get a set of 6x9 3-ways to get a little more mid bass...

depending on how new those are 140 aint a bad deal...
bring him 100 cash and i bet he takes it.. he he

i agree with everyones posts but let me add that pioneer subs are not the best for hard hittin bass, so if you listen to hip hop or da boom boom then you should get some fosgates or something similar!

later
anthony

I have my nine year old Sony CD player. I have no idea how much I spent on it. Also have some Pioneer replacement corner speakers I got for $25 off a friend. You can hear my bass from miles away.
